Grats Coconuts! You finally made it!

I filed for my SSN yesterday. She started by saying that I couldn't apply until I was married. I calmly told her I could, that the customs officer told me to wait 10 days and I had the pages printed to prove it. I kept my claws in as she said she'd check to confirm. Sure enough, she discovered I was correct and it was smooth sailing from there.

We then scooted off to the Clerk's Office and got our marriage license :D 18 more sleeps til I'm a Mrs. ! It's tempting to look at the AOS forms required as I sit here, but I've decided to not fret about any of that until after the wedding. I'll just fret the fun stuff for now...like shoes, and bouquets, and food....

What paperwork did you print off to help you at the SSN office? I'd like to be prepared for when it's time to get my card. :)

I didn't experience any difficulty applying for a SSN (other than that I wasn't updated in the "system" yet and thus it'll take longer for me to get a card), but this link has some helpful info: http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

Specifically, this page: http://www.visajourney.com/content/otherforms See the link marked "K1 SSN Authorization" which is a memo stating that a K1 is allowed to apply for a SSN. I don't know if that's what Tileeka used but it seems like it might be. :) The SSN officer is going to check for your I-194 in your passport so make sure to bring it (obviously). :P I also brought my birth certificate (a health card is not considered valid ID, at least not at the particular office I went to).

AOS material is now in the mail. It was fairly easy which is making me nervous and I feel like we forgot stuff. :bonk:

Applying for his SS tomorrow and doing my name change.

The name change business is kind of awkward, but in a cute way I guess.:D

Yes, this is where I referred to. Make sure when you fill in the form, Application for a Social Security, you check 'Legal Alien able to work' even though technically we can't yet. The office I went to also used my Passport and birth certificate as ID. Good luck!

I've been working AOS forms but it's been hard to motivate myself. Glad to see some of you have already sent it off! :D Can y'all walk me through the medical stuff for AOS? I've talked to a few ladies but I'm still confused and the ladies in question are from other countries so I'm not sure if they have the same form as me. What do I need transcribed/do I need something transcribed/halp?

I belive the instructions said that if you are on K-1 and have had your medical within the last year all they want is a copy of your vaccination sheet. That's what we did. What worries me though is that a lot of people said their medical never made it to USICS and they had to do everything all over again. I hope it works better for Canadians. :)

Same here. We just sent in the vaccination sheet and a letter attached saying the date of the Toronto medical was within a year. I had tried calling around to civil surgeons in the area but no one would transcribe the vaccination info onto the I-693 form without doing a full medical .. and I didn't want to spend another $250 if I didn't have to. If we get a RFE, we will deal with it then I guess? :(

Glad to see some people have gotten their AOS filed!! :D We have to wait a couple of weeks to save up before we can send ours, but I've been looking at the forms. Seems easier than the K1 stuff, at least?

CONGRATS to Coconuts & Sherrybaby for making their long-awaiting POEs! :D
