I'm resigned to not rescheduling earlier now, and things actually work out really well with the date we got. I know there's a lot of us with August interviews, when will everyone be around?

Mine's August 3rd at 8:01! :)

Mines August 2nd 8:30 am. anyone know when this place opens ?

I am going on vacation the first 2 weeks of July then I think I'm giving my 2 weeks notice the day I get back and then moving all my stuff to my moms to wait it out. I'm seriously hoping to get my appointment moved to the same week as you - I'm trying to go meet Mike in Germany before Aug 13th and I doubt I'll have my passport back in time. I too am over extended in my vacation time this year, I'm taking almost all of the July vacation unpaid... it's going to be tight! I would totally consider doing the quit after the interview, but I REALLY want to go to Germany and I need to wrap up my apartment by August 1 if I'm not going to work all of August...it's just too expensive to keep!

Are you looking to move your interview to the left again?

Well, its a gamble... but I have 2 weeks vacation booked in the middle of July for a camping trip and if I take them only to come back and work for like 2 weeks before quitting, I'll owe back a lot of hours due to how vacation works at my current job... it's barely any different to quit before I leave for camping and just bank on things working out... I'm about 90% leaning towards quitting for mid-July as it stands right now... plus, when I get back from camping I'll have a couple days to finish packing up our apartment and get all my stuff into my friends garage... and I guess get comfy on her couch until I have my passport in hand and maybe visit a few friends/family that I won't see much of after I move.

But if the vacation pay weren't such a factor I would've given my two weeks notice the day I got back from the interview because its the responsible thing to do... apparently.

Are you looking to move your interview to the left again?

I'd like to move it up just by a week for the sake of spending less time living on a couch, but I'm not too worried about it if I can't.

  • 3 weeks later...

So, has anyone started thinking about/planning where they're going to stay? Just curious. We've officially decided to stop checking for a different date, which is a nice relief. Getting all the plans together now. :)

I haven't yet... still refreshing, seeing if there's earlier dates available, although I highly doubt it!

Right now I'm fighting with the Via rail website. It seems that it gives me errors whenever I try to find tickets- "one of our providers is currently unavailable, thus we cannot process your request at the moment." It looks like it's just badly programmed or something, I hope it gets fixed soon. :( It's been like that for a few days but I've bought tickets off their website before without a problem. I want to leave on Sunday since my appointment is on Monday but I don't know if they run trains on Sundays. I'm guessing they do but who knows?

Have you decided on a hotel yet ralyse? And does anyone else happen to be traveling by train? I live in the GTA and used to take the train to Windsor and found it to be an overall pleasant experience. A plane is faster but when you factor in the time spent at the airport and all the annoyances that goes along with it, not to mention it's more expensive (I believe) I'd sooner take a train. The train station is also closer to the consulate, so I can save on taxi fare.

I'm not sure exactly where we'll be staying yet, but probably one of the ones from the hotel rec thread. We'll be driving, so that's something...

As far as via rail goes, I can't imagine they don't run on Sundays. All the routes I've ever taken (Kitchener - Brampton or Kitchener - Sarnia) run on Sundays, albeit not as frequently. Hopefully they get that sorted out for you! :)

We're still waiting to see if anything in July opens up, so we haven't looked at plans to stay anywhere yet.

That said, we're also keeping an eye on the current folks waiting on their visas to see if Montreal continues that really slow return or picks up again to where they used to be. *Ideally* we would like him to drive up on the 10th, we could go to Montreal on the 11th (either drive or take a train/flight - we would have to compare the cost of gas for the trip against the cost of plane or train tickets plus a rental car if need be) and then return home after the interview on the 12th, and then he would like to stay the week with me or so while we wait for my visa in hand and then POE by car together. On paper it looks great but the recent longer waits for passports returned has us worried.

If the passports are still taking long to get, our other options are: I go to the interview alone and he comes up later, which I wouldn't love but it could work, he flies up for the interview and we meet in Montreal, then he flies back and makes the drive up for me a couple weeks later or he plans to stay the week with me while we wait for the visa and if it doesn't, he goes back with most of my things and I fly back when my visa comes in.

*sigh* I just wish there was more certainty.

Oh, I hear you about the uncertainty. I was finally starting to feel relaxed about everything and having a normal experience from ehre on out, and now Montreal is having all these difficulties again... POE isn't as much of a concern for us as Ramon is just going to drive back and get me once I have my passport but I don't have anywhere to live except a friend's couch between itnerview and POE so that has me pretty worried...

:(

Oh Montreal, just when we're getting less stressed out...

How far of a drive does he have? My fiance's will be between 12 and 14 hours so I'm kind of wanting to minimize how many times he has to go back and forth. Granted, he is offering to fly up and back for the interview and then drive up to get me and POE, but it's still a lot to go back and forth like that.

We're really lucky, it's only 5-6 hours depending on the wait at the bridge. So he's going to go back after the interview and come get me once I have my passport :)

Ralyse, I am so thankful for your helpful responses in the other threads! THANK YOU!

Do you know if the sponsor (my fiance) is required to be at the interview as well?

It's nice that your fiance is coming with you :)
