It's complicated and the solution for this problem will be so very hard, the PM of Israel have just said that Israel can not go back to the 1967 lines, can not negotiate with a Government that is backed by Hamas, will not allow the Palestinians refugees to come back, WOW, he have just closed all the doors.

Israel is in a position of strength. Why would they unilaterally give that up when the other side (Hamas) wants Israel wiped off the face of the earth?

If Hamas could pretend to be reasonable, they might be able to coax Israel into making some suicidal concessions. But Hamas can't even pretend

As it should be. As long as the Palestinian people support an organization dedicated to the end of Israel, they can not be negotiated with.

Even if that organization doesn't even exist i believe Israel is not willing to stop settlements, withdraw from any occupied land, or recognize a Palestinian state to the 1967 lines, so it doesn't matter if Hamas is in the picture or not it is a dead end.

In fact it's quite the opposite. Most Israelis oppose the settlements, the people who are doing this are a religious minority. There are groups in Israel who protest the settlements. The vast majority of Israelis will and want to recognize a Palestinian state, and the 1967 border was their idea to start with. Israelis have already shown that they would withdraw from occupied land, as they did in Gaza, though it is true some are afraid because once Israel disengaged from Gaza they got shot at.

It seems to me that your image of Israel is clouded in propaganda and tainted media outlets, so all you get is rhetoric that uses it as a scapegoat, much in the same way ills are blamed on the west. I am against tribalism and placing blame and I am both pro-Palestine and pro-Israel. Unfortunately I don't see that openness coming back my way. All I see simple hateful arguments.

I am talking mainly about the Israeli government not the Israeli people, but i know what you're saying that a lot of Israelis just want peace too the same as the Palestinian people, but how does this happen to withdraw from the occupied territories back to the 1967 borders, i mean where does all the settlements in the west bank will go then ? and that's what the Israeli PM have just said at the white house, i would like to know your perspective.

No, not really.

Jewish - yup.

Liberal - yessir.

Vote - Obama in 08, Kadimah in 06.

Satisfied? Generally speaking - yes.

Vote intention in '12: Obama.

Views on '67 borders. He said the operative words "basis for negotiation":

From NY Times: "Mr. Obama said that the solution should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed land swaps, meaning that if Israel, as expected, held onto some close-in settlements, it would have to yield an equal amount of land to the future state of Palestine from within its borders. "

Sure, the Likud will have a fit over this wording but it's always been obvious from the days of the Allon Plan that this would have to be the ultimate basis for settlement. We keep Maaleh Adumim and Efrat, and give back the "triangle" around Umm-el-Fahm, something along those lines.

That works for me.

 So if the British throw a fit should the U.S. be given back to England? I love mental midgetry.

Who could give us back?

We've kicked their @$$es twice and the UN doesn't fart without asking us if it's OK first.

And that's exactly why the Israel/Palestine issue keeps cropping up. Nobody in the world (including US) can "make" Israel do anything. What people don't realize is Israel is not just Israel. Israel is the US. Israel is Britain. Israel is Russia. Israel is France. Israel is the entire world.

Want to see Israel finally make up it's mind? Take away dual-citizenship status of all Israelis.

But that creates another problem. Israel would stretch from Algeria to Iran and our buddies the Saudis couldn't sell us cheap gas anymore. But, with any luck, the Israelis (who would probably allow the same Filipinos and Bangladeshis who work the oil fields now to stay) probably would. Although, like all things associated with Israel - the price would go up.
