SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - San Francisco voters in November will be asked to weigh in on what was until now a private family matter: male circumcision. City elections officials confirmed Wednesday that an initiative that would ban the circumcision of males younger than 18 in San Francisco has received enough signatures to appear on the ballot. The practice would become a misdemeanor.

Supporters of the ban say male circumcision is a form of genital mutilation that should not be forced on a young child.

But opponents say such claims are alarmingly misleading, and call the proposal a clear violation of constitutionally protected religious freedoms.

The initiative's backers say its progress is the biggest success story to date of a decades-old nationwide movement to end circumcision of male infants in the United States. A similar effort in Massachusetts last year failed to gain traction.

Shouldn't that sign read "student". I only see one brave enough to be near it.

I imagine he was either a victim of a bad cut :crying: or thinks his private play time would be more funner.

I think if he brought that sign out to the midwest, the police might arrest him for public indecency and lewd conduct. :hehe:

I can probably think of a few more "liners" but I will leave with those.

Wait, is it my imagination? He looks like he is grimacing. Ouch. :crying::hehe:

I'm a bit torn because I agree that such a decision shouldn't be forced on the child because it IS an irreversible procedure (maybe it's reversible but that doesn't sound pleasant) but then I also wonder where exactly we'll stop with that. No immunisations 'cause of that risk? What about choosing his name? That's reversible but a pain in the #######. What about getting little girls ears pierced? Again reversible but I know some people who are still left with holes after removing the earrings.

All that said though :P I've already told Tony that the ####### decision is his. He's the one with a ####### and therefore understands circumcision and the pros and cons better. I personally prefer circumcised but like I said, he makes the ####### decisions. Probably everything else will be my decision.. lol.. he's already said that.. annoying really 'cause an opinion is always helpful.

I don't see why it needs to be banned at all. I'm pretty sure young ladies freak out at he sight of an uncut ####### the first time they see one. Think about the sex lives of teens! :crying:

Now, dammit, now.

Fwiw, this thread needs Amby.

I'm here. Someone told me I needed to come check this one out. I honestly don't have a preference on cut or uncut. If it's banned then we need to embrace the foreskin. It's not bad. There's pros and cons to each though.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

That's weird, my wife said the same thing to me before our son was born. I honestly had never given a second thought to it before that.

I still remember making up my mind not to do it after reading this tragic story.
