Passport Needed for Cuban Interview Appointment ?

Hey, this is a Cuba specific question. So my boyfriend received his telegram today telling him to go to the embassy to pick up his packet. But he still doesn't have his passport. We ordered it and are waiting for it to be processed. So 2 questions:

1) Do we 100% need his passport number to schedule the appointment ?

2) Some people have reported that they print his interview date on the packet hes is going to receive. Will they just schedule the appointment anyway without me calling ? He is planning to pick up the packet tomorrow.

Thanks for any advice

I will probably call tomorrow morning anyway...just to be on the safe side.

Sam, I cannot answer your first question for sure, because my fiance had his passport first. Regarding your second question, it says on the Havana interest section website the procedure for obtaining the interview which is for you to call, pay the $11 with a credit card and get the interview date. I have not heard of it being printed on the packet (not saying it couldn't happen, just have not heard that before). Lucky him that he got a telegram about his packet - my fiance never received that telegram, I called and made an appointment for him to pick up his packet next week.

Good luck!

I just tried to call the 1-866 number and all I get is a beep and then I get disconnected. Should I just keep try calling ? Anyone else experience this ?

From their website:

To use the service family members or associates in the U.S. should call 1-866-374-1769 to purchase a Personal Identification Number (PIN). PINs can be purchased for 11 USD using Visa or MasterCard. The PIN will allow the caller to access the service multiple times for information and appointment scheduling for up to a total of 8 minutes. The PIN is nonrefundable. In the event it is lost the applicant will have to obtain a new one. If the time allowed for the PIN runs out, the caller must obtain a new PIN and call the service again. Up to 5 immediate family members residing in the same household may be scheduled on one call using one PIN.

This is what I did and it took me one phone call. But maybe the phone is not working? So here is another number which maybe you can call and ask what to do: 011 5378333551 That's the number I finally reached to make the appointment for him to pick up the packet. It's not the one where you pay the $11 so I don't know if it will work for your interview scheduling though. Good luck.
