We are currently on Packet 3 of our VISA. I was wondering since our Daughter (born in Canada) is biologically His (US Citizen/My Fiance) do we need a visa for her? She has never lived in the US, she has been living with me in Canada. What extra paperwork should we be doing for her? I just printed out the application for Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America. Is that all we need to do? Can she use her Canadian passport to cross when I use my VISA then do the Birth Abroad papers when we get there or will she need a VISA to cross with me? Would save so much money for us I think, not having to do the Medical and Interview for the last step in our VISA process. Sorry so many questions. Emailed Montreal but will not get an answer for 3 weeks or so, if we are lucky. Anyone know who to contact about this stuff?

Thank you for your time.

She needs a US passport, because she is a US citizen and they are always supposed to enter the country with their US passport, even if they have dual nationality.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

I checked out the website on the info for a passport..says we both have to go to the passport office with complete forms and everything else. No American passport offices in Canada unless i just cant find one. How am I supposed to enter with her US passport if i cant get one. She wont be reconized as a USC untill we do the Birth Abroad stuff I think.

In Ireland, the US embassy does the CRBA passports, get them in the mail about a week after you have your CRBA interview. Looks like it is similar in Canada: http://canada.usembassy.gov/passports.html

You don't go to a passport office. You file the CRBA with the US consulate. Once it's approved then they'll issue a US passport for your daughter.

The CRBA is the only way your daughter can come to the US. She has a claim to US citizenship, and is therefore ineligible for a visa. If you tried to apply for a visa for her, and the consulate finds out her father is a US citizen, then they'll insist you file the CRBA instead.
