Hi, Do I need to submit original documents to NVC, and later bring the originals for the interview as well? I.e., do I need to make two certified copies of each document, my birth certificate and marriage certificate? Or I can just send a photocopy of originals to NVC?

Then, additionally, I will need to make two certified translations for each of the documents (i.e., one for NVC and one for interview at the embassy), right?

Thanks

In the directions for the applications it states to submit copies unless specifically requested to submit an original. It also says to be prepared to present any of the originals if asked later at an interview. If you re-read the directions, I think you will find this to be true. Just make sure and double check behind me. Always better to be safe than sorry.

Good Luck

Having a second original is to cover your butt if something is lost, and while that is rare, you can read plenty of stories here where it actually happened, so be sure to have an extra original--or two !!

As to the NVC, send the originals as well as a copy, and the originals will be returned to you at the interview--if they don't offer to return them, just ask after the interview is over.

I have just recently talked with the NVC about this issue for my step daughters I-130. They know that original birth certificates cannot be mailed outside of Russia and they will accept a CERTIFIED copy. I sent a photo copy but I later got a request for a certified copy that has the raised stamp on it. They will need to see the original at the embassy, at least that is what I was told. Translations are not necessary, but i did include it since I had it.
