Hi all,

I was wondering if it is mandatory to put employer's name and address on the change of address form. I can't see how it is relevant unless you are here on some sort of work-sponsored visa.

Can I just leave it blank?

Thanks,

Jenn

Jenn,

Interesting thought. But if one does have an employer why not provide the information regardless?

I suppose you're right. I just tend to not want to give them any more information than is necessary. They didn't know my husband's employer before we moved, so why would they need to know after? I'll probably just go ahead and fill that in to be safe.

Related question: Should I expect some sort of confirmation from USCIS that the change of address was processed?

there are 2 forms you have to fill out for a change of address, one for the alien and one for the sponsor..... they send a confirmation for the one filled out for the sponsor but not the other one....

Sponsor's Notice of Change of Address

I sent them certified so I could find out when they received them....

Thanks a bunch, Marilyn! I forgot that I had to fill something out too as the sponsor. Phew!

jenn, did you mean the AR-11 or the AR-11-SR?

The plain-jane AR-11 doesn't even have a space for the employer's name or address.

2005/11/07 I-129F approved, forwarded to NVC--to Chennai Consulate 2005/11/14

2005/12/21 Visa Interview Date

2006/04/04 Pras' entry into US at DTW

2006/05/01 AOS Packet (I-485/I-131/I-765) filed at Chicago

2006/08/23 AP and EAD approved. Two down, 1.5 to go

2006/10/13 Pras' I-485 interview--APPROVED!

2006/10/27 Pras' conditional GC arrives -- .5 to go (2 yrs to Conditions Removal)

2008/07/21 I-751 (conditions removal) filed

2008/08/22 I-751 biometrics completed

I mean the plain AR-11. It must have changed recently because it definitely now has the space for employer (or school).

I was just reading this....

What Should I Include?

For the Form AR-11: Complete the information requested on the form, including present address, last address (most recent only), alien or registration number, country of citizenship, date of birth, and your signature.

You do not need to include temporary addresses as long as you maintain your present address as your permanent residence and continue to receive mail there.

When sending us a change of address, you do not need to include numerous last addresses; only the most recent last address is needed.

Be sure to also indicate in the appropriate block on the AR-11 your current employment and school, where applicable.

As usual, I think that's kind of vague. What does "where applicable" mean? Is it applicable if you have an employer or school, or only if your employer or school is involved in your immigration?

I decided to send my husband's form without his employer's address. I will update if I hear anything from USCIS.

I am thinking "where applicable" means if you have a job or you are going to school put that info..... if you are not then you don't need to fill that in... at least that is how I see it...

I'm sure that probably is what they mean. I'm just stubborn.

Like I mentioned before, if they don't have or need that information prior to an address change, there should be no reason that they require it after the address change.
