Hi All,

Has anyone sent money to themselves from their USA bank account while in The Philippines? We send money using XOOM all the time but have never tried it while we were abroad. We're just wondering if it will work in case we can't find an ATM close to where we are staying.

Thanks,

Kev n Jena

If you send money to yourself WHILE in the Philippines, the transaction will not be possible to be successful. There is something about XOOM's system that doesn't accept any incoming transaction outside the US.

My husband tried to do this while he was in the Philippines but the transactions were always cancelled after trying 3 times. Luckily, he has remote desktop through VNC server/viewer that he was able to control, access and use his own desktop computer in the US that he used to send me money in my name in the Philippines, even though were are together.

Ive done it many time, no problem with Xoom. I would login to Xoom and just send it to my Fiancée is usual. Xoom or bank dont know the difference. Then we would go and pick it up and keep on keeping on.

It was worth it to me to not have to carry a lot of money on my person. For the $6 transaction, it sends really fast and I can pick it up in virtually any town in Phil.

I just reread your post, I never had that problem you talking about. While in Phil Ive sent to my Fiance many times from my laptop in the hotel and various internet cafes. I guess as a backup you can give you Xoom Username and password to a trusted friend or relative to send for you as everything should already be setup in the account.

Best of Luck

I have sent money to my fiancee several times while I was visiting her in the Philippines using Xoom to avoid carrying a lot of cash. It worked fine. I also e-mailed Xoom and they e-mailed back saying it would work fine. This is their reply:

Dear Paul,

Thank you for contacting Xoom customer service with your request.

Please be advised that you can indeed send funds to your friend in the Philippines while visiting the country. For this, you will have to use your US bank account or US issued credit/debit card.

Have a good trip

Thank you very much for the replies! Wish us luck, we are leaving for Phils in a couple hours! We'll probably give it a try if we need to now.

My fiance is coming over to the Philippines on June and he is planning to bring with him a couple of dollar cash..he is also considering the option of sending to western union to me before his arrival to freed him from any risk..what can be the best and safest way? He is thinking that it will be a inconvenient for us to keep withdrawing in the ATM machines later on the reason he wants to bring it as cash..He has a debit card in the US but i dont have any idea how it works here in the Philippines... thanks for any inputs!

If I may advise not to bring any dollars when going to PI or maybe bring just enough no more than 50$. If he has a debit card, have his debit card link to her bank account. I assume her bank account has an internet banking and from there he can transfer money and withdraw fron any atm with visa, mastercard or cirrus logo, thats option 1, another option is send money to your bank account which you will be use during his stay in PI.
