Packet 3 Question

Ok, so I downloaded "packet 3" instructions from the Mumbai consulate website so we can start gathering all the documents while we wait for NOA2 and have it ready and mail it out as soon as it gets to us. http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivforms.html

Couple questions... I'm actually confused with the instructions...

FIRST: Complete and return immediately to the Immigrant visa section at the American Consulate the enclosed Form (Applicant Statement), Form DS-156 and Form DS-230 Part 1.

SECOND: Obtain the following documents on this checklist, which pertain to you. As you obtain each document, check the box before each item and return this form to the Immigrant Visa

Section at the American Consulate, Mumbai. DO NOT SEND ANY DOCUMENTS TO THIS OFFICE. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT THE DOCUMENTS TO VFS AFTER YOU RECEIVE YOUR PACKET FOUR, PRIOR TO YOUR INTERVIEW DATE

So reading that, it seems that as soon as my finacee gets the packet 3 instructions from the consulate, she needs to fill out DS Part 1 (so only the first two pages), DS-156, and sign the Applicant Statement and return these three things to the consulate...This is where I get confused..In order for her to sign the applicant statement, it says she needs to have ALL the documents which pertain to her in her possession....so technically she can't return the packet three documents until she gets her medical report...is this correct??? How come it says "complete and return immediately?" And I know she can't get her medical done while we wait for our NOA2 because she needs the Bombay consulate case number....

Any help in clarification would be appreciated.

Here's what I think that we need to mail back for packet 3.

Applicant Statement (once we have all the documents, medical, etc etc)

DS230

DS156

Packet 3 Instruction Form with the applicable check marks.

Pl. let me know if I'm not correct.

Thanks,

You are not going to be able to schedule your medical without your appointment letter. You should keep everything ready other than your medical when you send out packet 3. I did my medical in Lilavati hospital, Mumbai last week and got the results back the same day.

All the documents you need for packet 3 that you mentioned are correct. I did not return the checked form back to the consulate( you might want to call up VFS and clarify this issue). I had no issues and got my appointment date soon. However, just make sure you have everything ready in hand when you send packet 3. Mumbai is very efficient in sending the appointment letter. They sent me my interview letter 3 working days after they received my packet 3.

Thanks for the response. So you're saying that as soon as my fiancee sends the packet 3 documents (Applicant Statement, DS230 and DS156), the Mumbai consulate will send her an appointment letter (interview date right?)? And once she has that letter, she can schedule her medical? And then before seven days, she would need to drop off the documents (passport, birth certificate, etc etc) to VFS, correct?

Thanks for your help.

After My Fiance received the letter from NVC saying they have processed our case, my fiance called up DOS to check whether Mumbai has received our case file. Once DOS confirmed, I sent out the documents for packet 3. I did not wait for them to mail me packet 3. I downloaded all the forms from the Mumbai consulate website and sent out packet 3 fast.

After receiving the appointment letter you can schedule your medical. Typically its alright if you schedule your medical 2 weeks before the interview. We had to rush things because we got an interview date much earlier than anticipated.

You can submit your documents to VFS 4 working days prior to the interview. It is not 7 days anymore for the K1 at least.

Note that VFS will only accept your forms, birth certificate, police clearance, passport copy, small medical report and VFS fees. You need to carry everything else to the consulate- like the big chest Xray, affidavit of support, proof of relationship etc.

Hi, I had a quick question . What address did u send your packet 3 to for the Mumbai consulate. I got my NVC letter on the 29th of July stating that they have mailed my petition to the Mumbai consulate. When I e-mailed the consulate the said they had received my petition and mailed me the packet 3 on the 1st of July which I have yet to receive. So I figure Ill just download and mail all the required forms to them without the packet 3. I just don't know the mailing address. could anyone help me out!

Thanks!

I'm confused about the same thing. It says mail to the "Immigrant Visa Section" at the Mumbai consulate but doesn't list the address anywhere. I just sent the consulate an email yesterday asking for this so am waiting for their answer.
