Sorry for the vague title but I don't really know what else to say. Our situation is this:

Our I-130 for my wife's (British Citizen) was filed DCF at the london embassy. It then went to the USCIS office for inital review (NOA1) and final approval (NOA2). The USCIS agreed to expidite my wife's visa request as I am ex military and my military branch royally skrewed up our application so they took pity on us.

Now heres the issues:

We got an e-mail 7 weeks ago saying "Your request to expidite has been approved. The decision will be made later this week."

3 Weeks ago we finally chased them down again and received "Your application will be decided on Date"...

Last Thursday I finally tracked down a phone number to the London USCIS office which currently holds the case and was told "Your visa application was approved yesterday (Wednesday the 11th) and a letter has been sent to me. The USC. First I was under the impression that all documents go to my wife as she is the one doing all the visa stuff. Anyway...

That paper from the USCIS office is a NOA2, correct? Though my research I have determined that the USCIS office does NOT give a case number, it is until the visa application has been approved and sent to the next office (Its name escapes me at the moment. Visa Processing Unit or something like that) That the next office provides the visa case number. Am I right or wrong?

Basically we are paranoid that the USCIS has once again said they've done something they haven't. Now I tell my wife, BritishBird, that this time is different because they said it was done. If they lied than this would be an outright lie as opposed to the usual "it will be done by blahblahblah" which is a broken promise. Sorry about that but on to my more important questions...

If you don't mind, I'd like to hear mostly from people DCF in London! As they may have a better processing time line.

1) Who assigns the case number

2) How long from the USCIS NOA2 do we get a case number.

3) Typically in london, How long is the wait time for a medical exam once you get the case number and call to book an appointment. Are we talking days, weeks... months???

Were desperate to get this case number as it will allow my wife to complete the medical exam, and then she can fly over to the USA for a long visit while we let the visa agency process everything.

Hi! I was going to say that I know someone in the same situation, until I realised that someone was your wife!

I understand that you're still waiting for your official letter saying the I-130 has been approved. From what the website says, they have sent out a mass of approval letters which people are starting to receive now (judging my responses of DCF people on another website).

It will be arriving in the mail addressed to you because you are the petitioner, the USC. The postal system is great sometimes and not so great at others so a little more patience might be required.

Once the I-130 has been approved it's passed on to the Immigrant Visa Unit. They are the ones who issue the case number. That's the important part that you're waiting on. Once you have the case number you can book the medical. As to appointment dates, it can vary. Sometimes you can get a cancellation. I've read of people calling Monday and getting an appointment in two weeks and then calling back on Friday and getting an appointment next week. So it depends. But you're not looking at months. Once the medical is booked she can send back the DS forms with a cover letter, letting them know when she intends to travel.

Good luck to you guys!

I should also add that sometimes people have called and received their case number. If they can't give you one yet it might be that the USCIS haven't transfered your case over yet

Thanks so much. Lol at the wife comment! I've called but no case number yet. Were just getting anxious because of a crappy uscis experience. I'm trying very, very hard not to let our uscis experience effect my attitude towards the next office but its hard with our current situation. I know the approval letter is on its way . We just want the case number to get the medical done so she can travel and we can wait the rest out as a whole family again! Thanks again for your reply!

Well, I know how much I miss my husband and how hard it is. Add to that a small child and it's even harder. For you too because you're missing so much. But from everything I've read once you have your case number everything moves much quicker! Good luck! xx
