Asked on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday about Paul Ryan's reform plan, Mr. Gingrich chose to throw his former allies in the GOP House not so much under the bus as off the Grand Canyon rim.

The Ryan program "is too big a jump," he said. "I think what you want to have is a system where people voluntarily migrate to better outcomes, better solutions, better options. Not one where you suddenly impose upon you—I don't want to—I—I'm against ObamaCare, which is imposing radical change. And I would be against a conservative imposing radical change."

...

By using the word "radical," Mr. Gingrich deliberately chose to echo the liberal critics who want to write the Ryan plan out of respectable political debate. Mr. Gingrich knows that all but four House Republicans voted for a budget outline that includes Mr. Ryan's Medicare plan, so his remarks had the political effect of undermining his former comrades in the middle of their budget showdown with President Obama.

In an interview with us yesterday, Mr. Gingrich conceded that he "probably used too strong language" on TV but that "I have thought about this for a long time and I am very, very worried." He explained that he was trying to articulate "a political strategy for long-term, sustainable change" and that Mr. Ryan ought to have focused on "incentives rather than punishments" and "the right to choose versus being forced to choose." He added that "I think it would be politically catastrophic to pass the bill in its current form" at a moment when conservatives have an opportunity "to break the left for the first time since 1932."

The fix is in. Obama will get reelected, but lose the Senate. That is why serious GOP candidates have yet to materialize. Newt was struggling to get off the dock, and only did so, by falling in the water. His is a campaign that will go nowhere, other than a regular guest spot on MS-NBC during the 2012 election coverage.

Post containing personal attack has been removed along with posts quoting same. Parts of the posts are returned below with the attack removed.

If GOP has the sense to nominate Deal (GA gov) , Brewer (AZ gov--who was the first to challenge the pro-illegal stand of the horrid POTUS), Bolton, West or Cain then they can landslide. Otherwise, third-party (or no-party) landslide

And those Republicans that want a real shot at the Presidency will sit 2012 out realizing that beating a sitting President is a very tall order. Couple that with the balancing act that any GOP nominee has to master between satisfying the GOP base and the tea party crazies (think: hard right) while remaining electable with the mainstream US voter (think: center) in 2011/2012 and you've got a very hard path to 1600 Penn Ave. On the other hand, if you sit 2012 out and face a clean slate in terms of candidates - no incumbent and no VP running for the job - plus a chance of not having to cater to a slate of right wing nuts to secure the GOP nomination, the road to 1600 Penn Ave is all of a sudden much easier to navigate.

Or in short: Your analysis is garbage. Brewer, Bolton, West or Cain a landslide victory? For Obama, yes. But not for any of these candidates. ;)

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

No - Rob, your post wasn't an insult nor a violation, however with the insult removed your post which discussed the insult didn't make much sense. I would only have been able to return 3 words.

That's an exaggeration Kathryn. The first sentence of my post I identified the insult then I made a joke. Whatever though, the brown nosers seem to agree with you which is what matters on VJ.

A no-party landslide?
Ever heard of independent (= no-party) candidates? Speculation that such candidate will win. :D Edited by Saddle Bronc

Gingrich: I am a falsehood. I am inaccurate and unfortunate

"Let me say on the record: Any ad which quotes what I said Sunday is a falsehood. I have said publicly those words were inaccurate and unfortunate."

Understatement of last 20+ years.

In tangential VJ (nonimmigrant worker in US seeking to bring in non-USC-non-Canuck spouse), this is like the petitioner (temp-worker) ticking off the CO prior to spouse being interviewed.

The Newt never had much of a shot to begin with - not at the GOP nomination and certainly not in the general election. That his campaign would never reach any altitude worth mentioning and fatally crash so shortly after take-off is a bit surprising but it's really not a big deal since he wasn't going to be the GOP nominee anyway.
