Hello,

I know there are many questions about traveling with AP already... I just want to give you my situation and maybe someone can give me better information.

My wife currently have her AP.

We filed for AOS on 11/2010 and her i-94 expired on 1/16/11, she was on an H1 visa for school. She is a Canadian citizen.

We are planning to travel to Canada in Aug 2011 with AP. However, we were planning to go to Europe from Canada for a trip.

Would she be able to use her AP to travel back to the US from a European country which she did not originally leave from?

Should she just get visa permission from Canada to go to Europe if need be? and then we fly back to Canada and she uses her AP to get back into US ?

Thanks!

Yes, she can go to Canada-Europe - US on AP. They don't check it on exit, just reentry, and even if they did, there is nothing that says she can't visit another country in the meantime. I don't know what "visa permission" is though, sorry. Only thing I would suggest is don't be gone too long, in case your interview letter comes and you are scheduled for an interview. Bon voyage!

AOS for my husband

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package

Thank you for the response. Greatly appreciated. We were planning to be gone total of maybe three weeks. Sorry about the confusion. When I meant visa permission I just meant tourist visa to visit other countries. If I wanted to go to china. I would need to go to Chinese embassy here in new York to file for a visa to travel that's all.

Be aware though. I got an AP a few weeks ago. I used it first going into Chicago where they will parole you at the kiosk/on the immigration 'line' and stamp your passport. Some airports like MIA, they will take you in for secondary inspection where they take you into a back room whilst they verify your documents. A little scary but don't despair only takes about 5-10 mins.

Might be worth having a list of airports on VJ at which the IOs on the line are able to parole you vs. take you for secondary inspection.
