Hi everyone, So we just had our interview today at the Los Angeles office.

We arrived 45 min early, and the interviewer called us on time.

First of all, he doesn't look that plesent, wasn't smileing the whole time just look like he's mad.

But regardless of such, we put a smile on our face and hope for the best.

We sit down with our interpreter, and he initially asked for our passports and drivers licence.

Then he proceed to ask my Husband further questions, such as criminal backgrounds, family history, and when he came to the US.

Then he made the comment about why he looks so nervous. (I told my husband to relax, but he couldn't)

So he then shifted the gear towards me, asking about my name and background.

Then he took a look at my passport, he said are you a green card? I said, No, I am US citizen (hint, the US passport)

Then he said: The passport is not a valid verfication of your citizenship, do you have any papers.

I told him I don't, becasue I became citizen with my mom. I was under 16, so when my mom became citizen I automaticly recieve citizenship as well. My mom didn't want to spent $300 at the time for the paper, and the lady assured her a passport is enough to proof of citizenship.

He said that the passport is issued from the state department and we are the homeland security department. Do you have any paper works from us?

I told him NO, and if there is I don't know. Because I was teenager at the time.

As that being said, he typed something into the computer and still were asking for my green card. I told him, I don't have them. They are cut up and no longer valid. So I didn't bring them. Still trying to assure him that they said the passport is enough proof of citizenship.

Then he printed something out, still asking me for further documentations and when I became citizen.

I told him, I was 15 at the time. I have no clue of the exact procedure and paperworks going into this. But my mom assured me about the passport is enough.

So he went out, doesn't look too satisified.

He came back after 10 min and said my citizenship is O.K. I said thank you...

He proceed on to ask more about our relationship. Where we met and when. I told him we met through a online game and proceed into real life. He has a skeptical look on his face the whole time I was blabing on the story.

P.S. The whole time, he's just fliping through our files really quickly, didn't stop to take a good look.

After I finished, he asks for photos. We showed him our photos, trips, and wedding photos.

Which were really bad, since we got married in Las Vegas and had no relative or family present.

He asked why, I told him that my parents don't really approve of our relationship, but we love each other so we got married secretly.

He said: why don't your parents approve?

I told him how my mom is little over protective of me and doesn't like guys without any social, economical background.

He proceed to frame me into the question of does your mom think he's a fraud (of green card). I have no choice but to answer Yes, thats one of her concerns.

He looks at more of our photos, and simply said your marriage looks weak.

I said, eventhough it looks that way but we are really truely in love. The reason why I don't want to tell my mom is because I want to prove to her that the love of my life is not a fraud.

He said: I don't think you need to prove anything to your mother, because she is your mother.

I told him my mom asks for my friend's drivers licence just because she thinks that they are going to kidnap me.....

Then he made some copies of our photos and give us a paper saying that we will hear from him in the mail later. And said, hopefully you can make to my next interview.

He didn't took any of our documents, including the EAD card that people said they would take.

Does this sound really bad? Are we rejected? Because I feel like crying when I came out of the office.

Sounds like you might get a second interview (Stokes interview).

Looks to me like the I.O. had a problem with you on the get-go. The US passport is sufficient proof of US citizenship, without the shadow of a doubt. Your parents did nothing wrong by not wasting (nowadays $600) on a Certificate of Citizenship. Yes, the US Department of State, just like the US Department of Homeland Security, is a federal agency. All the I.O. had to do is type in your passport number and all the information he needed would have come up. Obviously he did that later on, but tried to scare you.

Hard to predict if you will have another interview. I'd say, purely from your account, it's about 50/50.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

50/50 meaning another interview vs. rejection letter?

:crying: I am new to this, really didn't think this would be this intiminating.

He got inpatient with my husband when he couldn't understand the questions he were asking. Such as do you like the chinese government? and My boyfriend mentioned that his father is in full support of our relationship, he even sent us 10,000 dollars. He asked where's the money know....

My boyfriend got confused, then he had an annoyed look on his face and said, this is a simple question. Where's the money your father sent you...

honestly, i don't like him...

I think Bob meant 50/50 about whether you'll be approved or another interview.

That can be a visa for money red flag.

I'm with Sam & Fen on this one... based on what you just wrote about the $10,000 I believe you're going to have a Stokes Interview because it appears you were paid to get your husband a greencard.. even worse that your mother doesn't approve of, or even know that you're married. Seems like a greencard marriage. Your mother not approving alone doesn't mean much but together with the money... yeah doesn't look good.

Basically a Stokes interview is where they interview you separately and ask you each questions that people in a real relationship should know. Like toothbrush colour, what side of the bed you both sleep on, draw a picture of your house, what birth control are you using, what did you have for breakfast, when did you last have sex, what's your favourite sexual position, what colour is the carpet in your bedroom.. stuff like that. It can get VERY personal. if you get too many answers different from one another they will deny you.

I agree that the US passport is 100%, unequivocally, proof of US citizenship. A natural born US citizen wouldn't even have something from the Department of State, let alone the (non-existent until a decade ago) DHS.

Best of luck. It sounds like they are looking to give you a difficult time.

I've been telling my husband to stay calm since we are not faking this marraige.

Just tell them the truth, and they will understand.

Who would know, that the truth would seem so "faked"...

We are the youngest couple there, clueless and straight minded. (24 & 27)I blame this on our lack of preperation. I thought getting the papers done was good enough. I never thought a second of what we answer would sound like to them.

Well, i guess they are extra suspicious since we are young lovers.

you're not "young lovers" at all. It's purely your lack of preparation/understanding.. it's not even your "fault" it just happens sometimes. My husband I were 26 when I applied for my GC, 24 when we did the visa. People do it at 18 as well. Age is irrelevant really. Sometimes with a large gap its a factor but in your case, no.
