The teacher's story against the kid's. Only one of them is going to be true. Is it worth finding out?

Nah.

I want to know.

This part of the story is the most credible part of this entire story.

"Each of our schools flies the American Flag every day. At the Butterfield School, the Pledge of Allegiance is recited by students and staff. And the other schools recite the Pledge of Allegiance at least once per week."

Yes true but that doesn't mean the teacher feels the same about the flags being displayed on the school grounds. Example - Its not a far stretch to think that this teacher was worried about offending a Muslim kid in the class.

Controversy for the sake of it  coupled with an almost ocd obsession with it from people who lap it up, the way a dog laps up anti freeze.

What a bunch of tosh.

Generally, when reading a story like this, with conflicting claims, I tend to prioritize them in my head by credulity.

This is how I evaluate this story, in decreasing order of credulity.

Most credible: "Each of our schools flies the American Flag every day. At the Butterfield School, the Pledge of Allegiance is recited by students and staff. And the other schools recite the Pledge of Allegiance at least once per week." This is clearly very credible.

Less credible: An 11 year old kid was "off task". Granted, not all 11 year old kids stray off task in school but this behavior is not uncommon in this age group.

Least credible: The teacher thought an American flag was offensive. Granted, some teacher somewhere might think this but this claim ranks lower in credulity than any of the two claims above. There are a lot more 11 year olds out there who stray off task than there are teachers who want to appease Islamofascists.

This is how I see it. I understand that you disagree.

How would you react to the following story?

May 17, 2011

Allegations that _Simpson_ is an alien from outer space bent on domination of the Visajourney.com message board are tearing this tiny community apart.

The genesis of these allegations are unclear. However, there appear to be a large contingent of posters on Visajourney.com who believe it. A recent poll showed 67% of posters believe _Simpson_ is an extraterrestrial while 14% said they were unsure. Only 5% of Visajourney.com posters were "confident" in his humanity.

News 11 spoke to one of the posters in the 5%, fishdude. "These allegations are pure tosh. _Simpson_ and I may disagree on a lot but to think he's an alien is preposterous! Why would an alien post on Visajourney.com? Why would an alien even learn to write in our language? None of this makes any sense," fishdude told our reporter.

This story has two claims, neither of which can be definitively ruled out.

Claim 1 - you are an alien from outer space.

Claim 2 - you are human.

I tend to think the credulity of Claim 2 (you are human) vastly outweighs the credulity of Claim 1 (you are ET). My reaction would be to disregard this story out of hand. Your reaction would probably be to keep an open mind and weight both sides of the story. I bet you would even go looking for evidence to disprove that you are ET. Right?

I like how you made sure to put the underscores before and after my handle. Details are not lost on AJ.

Like I said earlier its not a far stretch to think that this teacher was worried about offending a Muslim student. It is a far stretch to think I might be a alien.

Whats key here is that I will not pass judgement until I know the whole story.
