Hey Guys,

Long time, no post..anyways, my fiance (now my wife) is here and we're just now applying for AOS. We have most of the documents ready. We went to the Civil Surgeon and they tried to have us do another medical exam, but I know from reading forums and the instruction sheet, it's not necessary. Anyways, my question is the doctor kept saying we need a TB skin test, I tried to tell him since my wife already had a BCG vaccination, she doesn't need a skin test because it would just result in a false-positive result. He insisted we need a skin-test for US requirements, I didn't give in, but only asked for the vaccination. Should we have gotten the skin test or was this just a ploy to get us to do another full medical exam? I'm thinking the latter, but I'm just trying to make sure.

For all the others who went in, did any of ya'll have to get other vaccines? Such as Flu and Hepatitis A? Those were vaccination my wife didn't have, so do we need those?

Thanks

We ran into the same problems as you did. Many civil surgeons we checked with wanted Chinook to have another medical, or they wanted her to have additional vaccinations, or both. We found out, like you did, that not very many civil surgeons know the drill when it comes to adjusting status.

By calling around to several surgeons and asking them about their requirements for simply transcribing the needed information for someone who was adjusting their status, we finally found a civil surgeon who was familiar with the process. We went to a civil surgeon who understood that Chinook was not required to have another medical nor additional vaccinations.

The cost for our civil surgeon's transcription services was about $35-40 and it took about 15-20 minutes at the civil surgeon's office.

You are correct...your wife is not required to have a TB skin test. First of all, it's not required because she was already screened for TB as part of her medical at St. Lukes. Secondly, it would be useless if she had a TB skin test because it would show positive since she likely had the BCG vaccination administered to her when she was a child.

It is also not required for her to get a hepatitis A vaccination nor a flu shot. Chinook was not required to get any vaccinations. You simply need to call around in order to find another civil surgeon who is more familiar with the process of adjusting status.
