Will address change speed up the process?

We're moving from NYC (where I filed AOS for my husband who was F-1) to NJ in about two weeks. I know that I'm required to submit my address update, but I'm wondering if this will speed up or slow down my process. Anyone here have any experience with this? It seems that there is a backlog at the NYC office right now and the time to interview for lots of people is over 6 months from filing. Yikes! My local office will be Newark based on my new zip code. You can see from my signature that we've already received the EAD. All of our email receipt notices stated that our application had been routed to the National Benefits Center. Our I-797C notices state that our USCIS Office is the National Benefits Center.

So, do you think it will be changed to Newark from NBC? And if so, will this improve or worsen my wait time to interview?

Thanks in advance.

You're suppose to tell them that you've moved to NJ, regardless of the assumptions if it speeds up the process or not. My friend applied last year when he was living in Maryland. Few months after applying, he moved to New York and didn't bother telling USCIS that his address has now changed. When he finally got the interview letter (went to his Maryland address), he went to give the interview in Maryland. After weeks of preparation for the interview, when the IO heard that the person now resides in NY, he told him that he will receive a new letter in the mail because his interview is to be done in New York (since that's where his local office is). Honestly, I don't know how often this happens, but you should definitely report to USCIS that you have moved to NJ now.

Ummm. My post states that I'm moving to NJ in two weeks. It also states that I know I'm required to submit my address change. Yet, you gave a whole story on someone else NOT changing their address and then having to repeat their interview.

Not once did you address my question. :ot2: Will updating my address improve or worsen my time to interview based on your experience?

Please post ONLY if you'd like to do that :bonk:

Yes, I know you'll be moving in two weeks. However, I also took into consideration, the fact that you will not be interviewed in that 2 week period.

If I were you... honestly if i were you.. i'd leave it as it is.. as a US Citizen you are asked to update your address if you have a pending application/case with USCIS... why i see it - not required. Once the applicant gains AOS with the necessary Affidavit of Support Docs then the US Citizen is required to update his/her address.. which is also stated in the instructions.

When a case is tranf. to an office that has a faster processing time it is that the case should fall into the priority dates that are being process.. however since that is sometimes done to try and speed up the process.. it's left at the processing speed at the initial office.

Simply because many people here provide responses, yet don't answer the question. I'm all for advice, but I'd at least appreciate an 'I don't really know the answer to this question...' so that I'll at least know that I'm not getting a clear answer. And if your answer depends on clarification on my part, just ask.

Whew be calm with them at the same time. ... it might shew someone away.. because they too don't wanna be chewed.. I know that people give responses... and sometimes dont end up answering the question.. but be patient with them.. they might be be slow. Most time someone will give the needed answer and it would have came effortlessly with you even probing the board.

 Thanks. I can see why the processing speed would remain the same. If not, everyone would change their address and clog up the offices with faster times.

My husbands AOS is pending and I don't want to risk not receiving notification for our interview. I can update online, but my husband must update online AND mail in the AR-11? Why? Redundant, but whatever, at least it's free.

 You say mood and I say reality. Can you highlight your response and tell me where you stated that my file would be changed from NBC to Newark? And if that will improve or worsen my time to interview? All I could find in your response was 'If you don't change your address, you're going to have to repeat your interview as my friend did.' Am I wrong?

You're a March filer just like me and I really wish you well with your application.

The only response you gave was 'Update your address now.'

Now, was my question 'If/when should I update my address?'

Why would your husband be required to update online and mail in the AR-11..? I dont see why he'd be required to mail it in. If your husband out of status..? i asked because u said he was F-1. I think a little crazy at time and if my wife/mom was in your shoe I probably would not have then file the AR-11.. if they are out of status.. just me.. others might have have their strong views but mine wont change.

He was out of status prior to us filing the AOS. Does this make a difference if we are already in AOS process? Have you heard of removal proceedings occurring once new address information is given for a previously out of status applicant? Or worse?

I got the AR-11 and online information from this page.

2. Non-U.S. Citizens

If you have moved, you need to follow two different steps:

* Step 1: File a Form AR-11 (This changes your address in our master database.);

* Step 2: If you have a pending case, you must also file a Change of Address online or call our National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283. (This changes your address for the specific application you have submitted.)

Please note that if you are a non-U.S. citizen and you have a pending case, you must complete both steps to make sure that you comply with the regulations and so we can reach you at your correct address.

Richardo, because one is the Petitioner updating his/her address, and the other is the Beneficiary updating their address. IT is required of both parties to update their address.

Question - are you wondering how it will speed up or slow down your wait time based on the idea that the actual administrative process of changing your address might affect the time it takes, or are you wondering how it will speed up or slow down your wait time based on how quickly the Newark office is processing applications as compared to the New York one?

If it's the first - I have no idea, sorry!

If it's the second - you can check similar timelines in both areas to see how fast things are being processed.

Good luck! :)
