I plan on drawing her a bubble bath the first night to help her relax and recover from Jet Lag (22hrs in the air), she never experienced bubble bath before. I will give her a Tour de Atlanta overt he weekend.

Now that's a good idea man... you just added to my plans LOL. My plan was to just get her here... I know she'll be tired and overwhelmed on the first day, so I was going to unpack her stuff with her and sort it out... if she wants to lay down, fine. I'll rest with her. I'll show her around the house, and outside... I'm still with my mother and father so I'm sure they'll be trying to make sure she's fine, constantly ask her if she wants anything, maybe want to ask her many questions lol. They've not met her in person, i can only go visit her. They're dying to have her here. I'll probably be worrying too much, even the first day... making sure she's okay, asking the same thing haha. I just love her so much, it'll be natural. But maybe after a few days, I'll start the driving her around and showing her common places we/I go for things.

It'll be a long road and with obstacles but I'm looking forward to it... much worse being seperated... Nice topic!

ok people , wut is the first thing that you do with your wife(or husband ) when they are here in the us ?. me , i am gona drive her around the area where i live . when i met my wife few years ago back in vietnam she is the one that drove me around on her scooter , then taught me how to ride scooter. then after that ill order fast foods like pizza so she know what it taste like. there are fastfood restaurants in vietnam yet most of them dont taste like the real stuff we have here in the us. post stuffs that you did , or plan to do with your spouse on here people , that will give me ideals of what to do to keep my wife happy and ease the culture shock that she will have to go through. i can not do guy stuffs like shooting , fishing , fix car , build a gaming pc or go out to bar for a drink with her since most women dont like stuff like that( and my old man told me to stay away from girls that like to do that stuff  ).

Dose of reality time.

Four hour flight from HCMC to Taipei. A couple hours layover. Eleven hour flight to the west coast of the USA. After 17 or 18 hours of travel, you're going to arrive in the US at nearly the same time you left HCMC, and on the same day! On top of this, the jet lag going west is easy - one night and you're back to normal. The jet lag coming back east is a monster - you'll be dog tired for days. I don't know what it is about crossing the date line in the fast forward direction that's so easy to adjust to, but rewinding is a killer.

I'd suggest not making any big plans that involve a lot of activity for at least a few days. Give her (and you) some time to rest and adjust to the new time zone. After that, ease into it.

Does she have any family in the states that live near you? Invite everyone over for a family get together. My house was packed with people when we arrived. My wife's uncle decorated my house with "Welcome Home" stuff, and her aunt and sister cooked up a storm. My wife and step-kids were happy just to eat and visit with family on their first evening in the US. We arrived two days before Christmas, and I had the week between Christmas and New Years off work, so we had time to drive around, see the area, visit friends and family, do some shopping, etc.

Here's a funny little story - for about a year before the visa interview, nearly every time I would drive home I would pretend in my mind that I was bringing my wife and step-kids to my house for the first time. When I would walk up the steps to the door I would pretend in my mind that her family and mine were waiting inside to greet everyone with a big "Welcome Home!". When I was getting ready to go to Vietnam for the interview I was adamant - nobody is going to come and pick us up at the airport. I wanted my daughter to drive my car to the airport, and I would drive us all home. I wanted it to be just like I had imagined so many times. It was. And I still remember it often.

im thinking when he gets here to show him around our new place and or neighborhood then let him rest. Once he is rested show him how to work stuff in the house that he didn't have in comoros like the stove and microwave and the washer and dryer. Then drive him around atlanta and take him to some of favorite spots. I also want to take him to AMC Fork and Screen and of course the touristy stuff like the aquarium and World of Coca Cola and CNN. I will also take him to my university and show him around and of course anything else he wants to see.

First, show her where the bathroom is :)

Then, go to the store to see if there's any food that she's used to. Buy as much of that, and only little by little introduce new foods. Avoid processed foods at first because the standards for additives in processed foods vary by country, and the allergic reactions might be severe. I know supermarket is not the most romantic destination, but it's a good idea to do that to avoid some more serious problems later. Better be extra safe, even plain water can be difficult to get used to.

Very sweet! (L)

To be together was the most important thing for us too...and then sleep :)

We had also spent a lot of time in each others cultures as I gather you had (we lived in the UK for 3 years and I spent 3months in Alaska while K1 was be in processed).

OP- I know you are probably dying to show her around and perhaps she would also love that...but after time apart and a long flight...I suggest taking her home, have some of her favourite Vietnamese foods there, make it welcoming for her and lie down together. Then you can talk to her about all the plans you came up with and see what she most wants to do/see :)

Whatever you do...have fun! It's the start of a new adventure.

Like JimVaPhuong my fiancee will be flying east, very East. Chiang Mai, Thailand, to Seoul, Korea, (transfer) to some airport in the US (I'll avoid NY) transfer to another plane then to the sleepy state of New Hampshire. I've gone to and from Thailand once, to was about 49 hours (maybe 24 hours in the air) (what a nightmare!) the return trip about 29 hours . She'll be fried. I'll pick her up, then an hour and a half ride home.

I'll have a phone for her, she can call home for about 2 cents a minute and a computer set up so she can use Live Messenger to talk to her daughter whenever she wants to--that comes first. Her sleep schedule will be confused for maybe a week, I'm not sure.

After that, it's her choice, take it as it comes. From spending three months with her in Thailand I've learned that the way that I look at things and the way that she looks at them can often be very different. Thai's often really won't tell you if something is upsetting them--though we've worked through a lot of that, but stress can trigger old behaviors, and if so I'll just try to let her call the shots. Comfort first.

Since I have met her she has gone from "hello" to now being able to converse in English quite well. By the time she comes to the US she'll have completed twenty 30 hour classes and will be able to read, write, and converse with strangers, so I think she can make her needs known.

If I can I'll take a month or two off of work, though that may be impossible--we'll see. I can't imagine what America would be through her eyes, so I won't try. It's nice to think about.

Well.....hmmm the first thing I plan to do when he gets here is......I plan to be in jamaica so we can fly to the states together. I plan for us to check-in together at the airport, go through security together and board our plane to JFK together. When we get off the flight together, my family will be at the airport waiting for us. When we finally arrive home, unpacking his belongings, making room in the closet and dresser for his clothes. Once we've unpacked we will freshen up and go out on the town. I plan to take him to Manhattan for a mini tour, expose him to the New York life, which can be a culture shock to anyone. Once we get back to Queens, the kids will be in bed and that when the fun time begins. . There's so many things I want to expose him to, I know our dream of him being in the states will be sooner than later.

First thing we will do is meet up with family and have a big feast and she can finally put faces to all the ones she talked to on the phone. Then we will take a motorcycle ride(if its not raining here in Seattle.....)and I will show her all around and let her breathe some fresh, sweet, clean air here. It will be something exciting as we start up our lives together.

Im really looking forward to some of the simple pleasures of life. While of course making love is on the top of the list, Just to snuggle on the couch and watch a movie, share some popcorn. Wash each-others back in the shower. Going for walks, going to the beach, sitting in front of the fire roasting hotdogs and marshmellos. and more and more love making
