Hello everyone. I am brand new to this site, so if there is a better forum I should be in, please let me know. I am really trying to be optimistic, but I am not feeling that way right now. I live in the US and I have a friend, male, Egyptian that just applied for a US Tourist Visa at the Embassy in Cairo last week..the week of May 9th, 2011. He said he thought the interview went great and the person interviewing said he had all the required paperwork for his tourist visa application, but the man gave him back his passport and put a bar code on the back of it and told him within the next week to start checking his status on the website and to use the tracking number that was given. He told him if it is approved then they will tell him to send his passport DHL. The website has said he is under Administrative Processessing..or Review...I forget which one. My friend is a well educated person, an attorney, and has strong ties back in Egypt with no reason for over-staying his tourist visa. I not feeling optimistic about this because they gave his passport back to him. He has never traveled to the US before if this matters. If anyone has had the same experience, please let me know.

Thank you in advance.

There may be someone in the MENA regional forum that can offer some input? I don't have any experience with this particular issue. Wish I could help.

Passing harsh judgment on those you don't know says nothing of the judged and everything of the judge.

when asking for strong ties for egypt pakistan and a few other countries it for the most part means he has a wife and kids that he will be leaving in his country.......i personally would not hold out too much hope for any tourist visa but stranger things have happened ... i hope it turns out the way you want it to

just my opinion
