Repercussions from letting office colleagues know she's getting married to a foreigner

My fiance is filling out the DS-230, and hesitates to put her job information because she is afraid

the consulate will call her office and coworkers will find out and volunteer bad information to the

Guangzhou office.

She doesn't have a bad bone in her body, and she's done nothing to cause problems for other

people, but she worries.

She's doing very will for herself in her hometown and will do even better if she stays, because

she's making her employer a lot of money. So some people in her life are thinking she would

be better off without me. For that reason, there is considerable opposition from her aunt and

uncle, and other people she's told outside her office.

Is there a means by which other people could cause problems for her? If she has to, she'll quit

her job to avoid this, but I think work is good for her morale.

Thanks.

Sounds like the people who would be likely to sabotage the visa petition already know about it. Sure, they could always call the consulate and pass on some information that could be harmful to the process. I would suggest that if you haven't already, both of you write EOR letters and your wife explain in hers about the issues with some members of her family so any statements they might make would be addressed already. As for the colleagues or calling her work, I don't know that would be a concern. It is not possible to submit the DS-230 without the employer information so there is no point in being hesitant about it.

I have not read of any beneficiaries in China who have had the consulate contact their work or family. (I say non that I have heard about during my two years on this website.) This does happen in some other county consulates. My wife had some concerns also, but they were more about the chance of her losing her job if the consulate contacted her office, since being pregnant or attached to a foreigner are not "positive" attributes for a good employee to have if you are female. That being said, no one ever contacted any employers or called her family. Don't sweat it, include everything, hide nothing. Good luck!

garfield529 is right. There is no evidence that Guangzhou would contact employers. Guangzhou will not do it to verify anything related to her work. But you can not stop people who know her contact Guanghzou. But I think the possibility will be very little. Simply do not let her immigration well-known.

Was she married before? I heard sometimes Guangzhou may contact her ex- to find out their real relationship if Guangzhou has a doubt about your two relationship. But such probability also is very little.

So stop worrying. Believe people are good!! If anything is going to happen, then deal with it when it comes.

those friends, family members, co-workers, etc, would have to contact GUZ IV directly through a process that GUZ IV calls 'third party correspondence' and mostly -

GUZ IV disregards TPC unless they deem that there is serious merit to the allegations posed by those letter writers. Then, if they feel there is serious enough 'stuff' to warrant an investigation, they will investigate.

It's extremely rare, as GUZ IV knows the majority of TPC 'intake' is coming in from folksen who wish to harm the beneficiary .
