Are you doing a K1 (fiance) visa or a K3 (spousal) visa?

If the first: greencard won;t be issued until after you are married and did AOS, so you can chose the name then. If K3, I believge it must go by what is in the passport, but not 100% sure on that.

I am married and it is the CR-1. I don't know if the DS230 was checked or not? Ok looks like we will have to have everything changed after they are issued. The green card will have to wait until ROC when it's time for the 10 year card. I was told they mail the green card to her after she arrives and is checked into the US at the POE. I was told sometimes they file the social security card for you when you arrive at POE. OK thanks for the replies.

re: SSN card - it may or may not come in the mail within 5 weeks after POE, automagically. sometimes it comes in, sometimes not, it's a ####### shoot. Use the advanced search feature here, look for my name and SAVE as search term, show as posts.

re: name on Green Card - It is POSSIBLE to get it changed at the POE, but mostly unlikely, as the CBP officers will have to know how to do it in the SAVE system, and most of them don't know how to do it. If you have time between connecting flights, it's certainly worth it TO TRY, asking for a supervisor to get the name changed. She'll have to show something with the 'new married name' at the POE. (New passport, new china id card, something with the new name, issued by a government)

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
