This does remind me of a joke . . .

In one of the oldest Monastery in Europe a priest discovers some old old scrolls hidden away in a basement behind some casks. As he opens and reads them, his eyes light up for surely these are ancient original texts of some of the gospels.

He brings his find to his Bishop who explains they must be the original texts from which the early church fathers copied the scriptures before there were printing presses. He sets the Priest the task of reading over these early texts to see if they hold any further clues about their origins.

A few weeks go by and the priest happily works away on his old documents, bringing discoveries of lost texts or mistranslations excitedly to the Bishop. One day, the Bishop visits him in the archives and discovers the Priest bitterly crying, his head buried on his sleeve.

"Why, whatever is the problem? Why are you crying?" The Bishop asks with concern.

The Priest looks up to his Bishop and with a deep moan, cries out "The word was 'Celebrate"!.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

how's utah?

I'm not too impressed so far. I mean, I know I grew up here but lots has changed in 4 years. I miss Ontario. :(

What has changed?

The population. I remember a time when you could actually drive on the freeway without slowing to a crawl every two miles. This state is completely PACKED now, even in cities that used to be nice and quiet and small. It's crazy.

Interesting. I've been reading about how those states have been experiencing record population growth at the expense of the states in the East and Midwest. Good to know the media didn't make that up. Living here in New Jersey it sure doesn't feel like our population is stagnant or decreasing, no matter how much the media assures me that is the case.

Maybe it's time to move a few more miles out? That's what we do out East. Keep moving further and further away (suburban sprawl is only bad when people are moving into the areas you live in, not when you are the sprawl).

The media definitely isn't lying on that one. The first thing (well, second or third) we did when we got here was get a place NOT in Salt Lake City. I'm still amazed at all the people in this once relatively quiet state.

I miss Ontario. :(

Oh man, this is scary. Incanada missed Ontario. This is bad!

Not "missed". Just plain MISS. I want to move back.

incanada1234,

This may be a good time to go back and re-read this thread:

You hated Canada at first but gradually came around to liking it. Perhaps the same will happen with Utah? And the reasons you cited in that earlier thread for wanting to move to Utah - do they no longer apply?

I blame immigration, I really do. If we could have left sooner, we would have been more excited about it. But the process took 16 months and so by the time our interview day arrived, I had grown to really like where we lived. Dammit.

I guess those earlier reasons still apply. I don't know, I'm confused right now. There are definitely things we love here. But what we love most - his family - isn't here.

I love that you're my shrink.
