My wife is from the philippines, she has had her green card now for a bout 6 month. She wants to go back to the philippines for a visit. The only concern we have is that her passport is still in her madin name, not her married name. So i assume all she need to do is carry a certified copy of our marriage lisence with her. she would get her passport changed to her married name while in the philippines but she will not be there long enough to do that.

Am i correct that this is all she needs and should not have any problem traveling to, then from the philippines back here???

thanks all

We had no issues returning when we left the US. On the return, the INS officer simply glanced at her passport and concentrated on her green card. he scanned and then handed her card back and "thank you". We were done. We made sure to have marriage license and her AOS approval letter just in case but was not needed.

Your wife need not have to go to the Phils to renew or change her passport. The Philippine embassy has an outreach program where officers travel to various cities in the USA to renew or change passports, report marriages or births etc. Just check the website for updates and cities to visit. Just be sure to check the embassy consulate that serves your area. We are in Fla. so ours is the washington dc office. Looks like your consulate is San Fran.......

Get the tickets in her maiden name.. It should always match the passport. :)

I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

The coming back to the US is not really the issue here because the DHS officers will most of the time focus on the GC. The problem is, when your wife checked in at the airport because your wife's name on the ticket must match to the passport. People at the check in area will asked for a passport if your have an international flight.

Im in the philippines right now for 6 weeks vacation, been here since April 17, and i'll be back to US on May 28. There is no problem with regards to your wife's situation, coz im on the same situation. For as long as you have evidence showing that those 2 different last name belong to the same person you are perfectly fine. In my case, my name on the ticket is my married name. My passport is still under my single name. My green card is on my married name of course. When i was at the airport. All i presented is my passport and my green card, thats is. There wasnt no question at all. Just for support purposes i also bring with me my marriage certificate/license.

On my part my ticket is on my married name. But i think it would be a lot better if you use the name on your passport, because the airline will look at your passport. But as i said, even if i use my married name, i didnt have any problem at all, coz i have my greencard with me and i also bring my marriage license.

have a safe trip soon!
