GOP Congressman: Without a raise in the debt ceiling, we simply get rid of the Department of Education and Commerce. No big deal.

The country doesn’t go off a cliff [if debt ceiling not raised] because revenues come in, tax revenue, and we just simply prioritize. We pay the interest on the debt first, we make sure that seniors get their Social Security checks, and we honor Medicare. But when we get to discretionary spending, whether that’s the Department of Education as an example, or the Department of Commerce, then, all the sudden, we reach in the hat and we decide who [unintelligible].

Eh, these (along with Dept of Energy, which was foisted by incompetent--he made contemporaneous Canadian PM Joe "Who" Clark resemble Charles Cornwallis in comparison to his own Ambrose Burnside--Jimmy Carter) and other departments foisted post-LBJ would be best eliminated--now, a good excuse to do so, whatstheholdup!?

Sounds good to me. I don't have a vested interest in any government agency outside of DHS for the next couple of months, and after that, I am good for about ten years if the Feds go unwatered, wither, and die. No sweat off my balls.

Pretty much my sentiments. We as a nation survived before we created huge wasteful bureaucracies and we will survive if they go.

Gotta love it when politicians never mention two bs trillion dollar wars when they recommend doing away with everything else. It gets even better when the brain dead public never mentions it either. What a country eh ?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Well I think these departments are important, but yes they are bloated to a degree where they become less effective.

If we closed down the DEPT of Education, dO you believe kids would be any less educated in say, ten years time... than if we had not?

For who? The Dept of Education was invented by Jimmy Carter. Is our education better now? Who do they educate?

And yes, while we are at it, Why_Me, we can end the wars also. I THOUGHT the Dems and Obama were going to do that when we elected them in 2006 and 2008.

Hard to believe that anyone really thought they would end the wars let alone expand to another. Guess Barnum was right.whistling.gif

I didn't, But that is what they told us.
