Mike Huckabee Has a ‘Very Important Announcement’ to Make Tomorrow

Jim Newell — For the two or three of you who don't spend every Saturday night watching Fox News already, you'll definitely want to tune in tomorrow evening. Mike Huckabee is teasing a "very important announcement" that he plans to make on his show. The inside bet is that he's pregnant again. But it may also have something to do with that 2012 presidential race that he'd be a frontrunner in.

It sure sounds like the beginning of a campaign rollout, doesn't it? It wouldn't be cool to give 36 hours of notice for a "very important announcement" about how you're not going to run for president. Then again — and yes, we know that ethical concerns only play a marginal role in Fox News' programming decisions — it would be reek of malpractice for the network to let a paid staffer promote his new presidential candidacy for an hour of national television.

Whatever he decides, Huckabee's choice will have all sorts of dramatic effects on the race. Barring some unusual dystopian fantasy like "The T-Paw Surge" from ever happening, Huckabee would be a near lock to win the Iowa caucuses (again) if he ran. Remove him from the picture, and suddenly the first state in the nominating season might be competitive! Sarah Palin's numbers typically look better in Huckabee-less polls, too.

Now it's your turn to speculate, in the comments! Here's something to consider, though: Huckabee's 2008 campaign manager, Ed Rollins, who's also been "organizing his 2012 campaign-in-waiting," hasn't heard squat. "I've heard nothing," he tells the Wall Street Journal, "which indicates to me he's not running." Maybe he just thinks you suck now, Ed Rollins.

I still don't get why they don't just roll out Bobby Jindal.... at least then they would have a shot at impressing people.

Right now their only shot is the fact that Obama sucks. In the process though, they have to prove they don't suck... which isn't easy.

Huck actually turned out sensible (knowing that as "Bubba not-even-Lite", he was dead-in-water, ergo withdrawing) in stark contrast to Newt.
