We can blame Porky's (1982).

Ah yes. Difficult to say that it restructured the genre quite so emphatically (the Hughes comedies after all persisted with commercial and critical success in its wake), but nonetheless the ideological "godfather" to the 'American Pie' led renaissance.

Has anyone seen 'Let Me In'?

No - not sure I've much intent to either after what I've heard. I presume you've seen the Swedish version?

Has anyone seen 'Let Me In'?

I watched the original version. It was disturbing, but a good film.

Another new film from Iran on Netflix - Baran just became available and I watched it the other night. This is the second film Iranian film I've seen in the last month. The cinematography is outstanding, IMO. Clear staging, lighting, color. Really nice. The story wasn't that captivating for me though - a teenage boy discovers that another boy he'd been picking on at work is really a girl.

Goethe in Love which is, well, about Goethe in love. It's based loosely on the accounts about which he wrote The Sorrows of Young Werther. It's very well acted and stays true to the time period. Plus, and this is a nice bonus, the actor who plays Goethe is rather easy on the eyes.

I saw The Fighter, which was excellent. Christian Bale was the stand out...was he nominated for the Oscar for that role?

I've noticed it's now available on Netflix and was wondering if it was worth seeing. I'll add it to my queue now. :)

No it's not. It was a little slow (or a lot) while watching but good when reflecting back on the movie after it was over and done with.

I recommend to you:

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Tartan Films release.

Part of their Vengeance series, though none have any connection for characters across the movies.

In Korean, with subtitles

MAN this was some twisted stuff, in the end, all die...

Highly recommend it - gore was not that bad (I not like gore movies)

Plot seemed twisted at first, then everything came together in the middle, ending was very strong..

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

At risk of sounding redundant, I saw "SAW IV"

When I saw the first one it blew me away, because

I just thought it would be another slash/terror film

with amateurish special effects. It was so much

more than that and the sequels also delivered.

The first one had some great acting by Cary Elwes,

of "Princess Bride" fame.

Each one is bone-chilling terrifying, but they all

have the feel of a situation comedy, because all

the fans of SAW know what the situation is.

The idea that the bad guy (a true diabolical genius)

causes countless deaths but never actually kills

anyone himself. With true modesty he makes every

misfortune into something that the victim deserved.

Ugh! I hated Saw, enough that I didn't bother with the sequels. I found the twist ending laughable and there was a contrived chase scene with the cops that dragged on without any tension at all.

Also the trailer suggested that Carey Elwes had to cut off his foot to save his family, but he ends up doing it at a point where the audience knows it makes no difference.

Way to give away the ending there!

Old Boy is better. Also Thirst by the same director.

Lady Snowblood is also a very good revenge film, but it's older. Tarantino borrowed from it for Kill Bill.
