I want to know how they got them into the country in the first place - you can't get a K1 without proof of meeting, and the article said that many had not met their new "spouse" until they got to the courthouse. Ghana is not an easy country to get a B2 from either, in my understanding, so I'd be interested to know more...

Thanks for sharing, Kaydee.

coached couples on the questions customs agents might ask to verify the marriage's legitimacy, such as what side of the bed each slept on.

We do that here... doesn't make it marriage fraud.. could be they're just nervous and want to make sure they don't 'fail'....

Some people can't remember their own name when they get nervous.

The way I understood the article, those men were already in the country illegally... so they just adjusted status after the marriage I would assume--hence not needing to fulfill the having met prior to the wedding requirement-- and they probably didn't get a visitor visa if they are illegal.

I may have misunderstood.

I was going to post this, but you beat me kaydee!

Heard about this on the local news when I woke up this morning. Northern Virginia has big problems with illegal immigration, so I was not totally surprised.

And coaching people on what questions might be asked IS marriage fraud if the coaches knew that the answers were going to be lies. These people were trying to cheat the system, unlike most of the people here who are trying enter legitimately. Telling people what questions might be asked when you think they will be answering truthfully is not the same thing at all.

I've seen it before. Foreigners come here legally with a visa and go illegal by overstaying. Then they marry an American citizen, make a US citizen baby, and file to adjust status here. A lot of them know they are going to do it even before they get on the airplane.

As long as they can get away with it they will do it.

That is why there should be no amnesty for illegal aliens. You get what you tolerate. That is why we shouldn't allow our politicians to tolerate illegal immigration or to reward it.

Ditto for the illegals that sneak into the USA without a visa.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

I'm sure they had fake evidence.... e-mails, boarding passes and maybe photoshopped pictures to prove they have met.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Unless they were entering the US on a fiance visa they wouldn't have to have 'met' prior to the wedding would they? Is that something you have to prove if you're going K-3?

Not sure if most of you have seen the link posted by Canuck Carrie. From reading it, the whole immigration system is in worse shape than what it seems on the surface

I think these were illegal immigrants that were already in the country...

Makes sense.
