Great find Dizzy! I'm guessing that is how they did their AOS and if so then Sonoko and I shouldn't have an issue!! I hope yours is the same way and I'll be anxious to hear about it.

Well this should complete our package and it will be off early next week! I'm glad to see activity starting to pick up. Once I get the package together I'll post how it looked and see where it goes from there!

-Shawn

Shawn,

I look forward to seeing what's in your package :)

I'm a couple months away from sending our AOS package, but always looking for a head start :)

Thank you!!

Bobby

On the AOS forms, we are using the married name since as of the date of signatures, that is her legal name! The funny part is on the G-325A there is a spot for her name in her native alphabet (Japanese), so her first name is in Kanji then roman letters for her new last name.

It's weird, but was what her friends who have married Americans have done and been accepted!

Sitting at the dining room table right now assembling our AOS package.. hope to get it mailed off tomorrow!!

Good luck and a post this week will come with how I put together the package!

OK.. well back to business!

First off, congrats Dizzy on your approval!!!

Sonoko and I have officially (legally) tied the knot and are working on our AOS package and well it has been a challenge!!

Well, now back to California and so far about 12 civil surgeons we have called are charging $250-$400, stating that she will require a medical examination. When I cite the I-485 and I-693 instructions (and the calls to USCIS that I made verifying that I understood the instructions) that another medical exam is not required within one year, they usually state "It's our policy that we do a medical exam." I did get one saying that they can do the vaccination supplement and that they will have to re-administer the vaccinations, even if she has them already, only $160 plus fees for the vaccinations.

So is anyone else having these issues?? I guess the only thing to do is to keep calling around but being so far away and not having the time off work lately this has been a very difficult challenge!

Congratulations Shawn & Sonoko! Wedding Bells here and in Japan too (when you two go back to visit? Yes?

Edit: I forgot to mention, that there are other CS's who would not agree on a second round of vaccines, esp since they were just done within 6 mos ago. I wish I was a CS... I'd do it for $19.99 ... as a one time offer for only the Decemberites!! LOL LOL LOL

Hehe, that is actually the only thing we concern about... We didn't go to a Civil Surgeon and just included a copy of the 'copy' from the clinic in Japan. Original should be in their hands already at USCUS, as I handed the brown envelope to them at POE. I read all the instructions before sending AOS package, and decided not to fill out I-693, because the copy of my medical exam looks good enough.

But I also did read some posts on VJ that they got RFEs for that, even though they thought their medicals overseas would be good enough, so I have no idea how it goes... I think we may get a RFE later on, but... fingers crossed:)

We're not planning on going to a Civil Surgeon to get an I-693 either :)

One thing we have (that I didn't see anyone here claims to have) is a sealed envelop given to my fiancee by the vaccination center in China. The sealed envelop is addressed to "USCIS (Vaccination Form)". So we're just going to send that in along with photocopies of all the medical and vaccination records my fiancee has.

Good luck to your AOS, and I hope you won't get an RFE :). Even if you do get an RFE for AOS, it's a lot better than getting RFE for k-1 visa now that you are married and living in the same country.

Please keep us posted!! Thank you :)

Regarding the civil surgeon:

Is this something that insurance would cover if you add your spouse to your plan prior to the checkup?

Has anyone tried that?

Hi guys,

Just an update on my process. My fiance and I will get married on the 2nd of Sept. Just a simple court wedding, because we will have a church wedding once we're able to save up.

I found a civil surgeon who will do the transcription for $30, and that's the cheapest I could find here in SoCal. I went there, and they said that I don't need anymore vaccines. However, he told me to have a blood test to check if I've had chickenpox before. When I was in the Philippines, the clinic just saw the chickenpox scar on my face and concluded that I already had it when I was young. The civil surgeon said that they need an objective evidence, and that USCIS asks for it now. So, I just said yes, for $20. All in all, I had to pay $50, which I think is good because I called around, and the price range was $150-300. I'm just trying to make sure I don't get an RFE. I hope things will go by smoothly. I will be getting the sealed envelope on Monday. :)

Where did you go? I'm in the SOCAL'ish area and need to find the right place in case we get an RFE. Sonoko and I decided to not do the I-693. If you just read the I-485 instructions, it is pretty vague, just saying to provide vaccination verification with the package. So hopefully the stuff from her medical will be sufficient!

It will be interesting to see where this goes for everyone!!

Mari... I wish you were a CS, I would make the extra travel for that! LOL So far I'm just not too happy about the ones around here! BLAH!

So the city i'm from has 30 Civil Surgeons :o. I'm assuming at least one of them has been through the immigration process because on his website it says he'll do either a full exam or just provide the vaccines you need (like Varicella, or MMr). I'm thinking...sweet! That's the only thing my FI is missing...ChickenPox =\
