Hey everybody! Sorry for disappearing these last few weeks, I'm in the US and adjusting to my wonderful new life here. Unfortunately Blake and I are not married yet (we are hoping for Oct.27, since that is when my grandparents, who were married over 60 years, were married) and I haven't even applied for my SSN yet because my birth certificate has gone missing! My mom says she packed it, but I can't find it anywhere, and my dad has a copy but doesn't know it so probably won't find it even though I filled him in, so looks like I have to send away for a new one - on a rush! and wait for that.

Its okay though, its not a race and everything will get done once it gets done.

I am doing AWESOME on the fitness challenge though :P hahah. I've been cutting carbs and doing Zumba classes (have one tonight actually) and I don't have a scale so I can't tell what my results have been so far, but I'm confident that I'll be able to fit into my dress again by wedding time in May.

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who is married now :D

[/quote

Christine, its great to hear you are adjusting well to the USA! October 27th will be here before you know it! My first two weeks here were kind of rough, but life is good now!

M & J, Nov 12 is a wonderful day to get married, it happens to also be my birthday!

Have a great day everyone,

Lise

Finally pulled my finger out of a certain orifice and have mailed my AOS packet today to Chicago. What's another $1,070 between friends....

We shall see how this goes now for time - last time I checked the SLC office was taking 3-4 months to process things. They must have too many LDS missionaries coming back with foreign brides! devil.gif

Looking forward to your AOS update!!

My wife received 2 NOA's in the mail yesterday, one for I-485 and the other for her I-765. These were payment receipts with notice dates of 10/03/11.

I'm looking forward to her biometrics appointment in 2 weeks. She can't wait to get her EAD so that she can take her written test for driving.:D

Congrats to everyone who got married!!!

I also got married end of September and filed AOS this week.

Swissmiss

Congrats on your marriage!

I have a question about the AP document, what if any restrictions do we have on it. I understand work authorizaiton and AP come before our green card and am wondering if people travel with their AP document or is it meant for 'emergencies'? I have an elderly friend who is palliative and would like to go see her, she is not family so I am not sure that situation would count. How do people use their AP approval?

Have a great night everyone,

Lise

Lise,

It is my understanding that you can travel anywhere and anytime with AP document, but I wouldn't be away for too much and too long :)

You should probably start a new thread with this specific AP question so that more people can see it and respond :)

Hi there,

I posted it on another thread, it seems travel is restricted to family emergencies...still unclear about it, will keep investigating! If and when I go Michael will come with me...hopefully that will help with evidence that I am not running away from him lol.

No biometrics appointement yet, hopefully soon.

Lise,

I read your post in the other thread. I don't think you're in the same situation as the OP in that thread. :) You are not needing to get your AP asap. I think all you wanted to know was whether you are allowed to go visit your elderly friend after you receive your AP.

According to this USCIS guide:

http://www.uscis.gov...ources/B5en.pdf

If you are a LPR planning to travel outside of the United States for 1 year or more, it is important that you apply for a reentry permit before you depart the United States. If you stay outside of the United States for 1 year or more and did not apply for a reentry permit before you left, you may be considered to have abandoned your permanent resident status. If this happens, you may be referred to appear before an immigration judge to decide whether or not you have abandoned your status.

Nowhere does it say you can only travel for emergencies.

Unless I'm missing something, I say you can travel as you please, but don't stay out too long :D

Have fun!! :)

Okay guys big problem - I've lost my passport with my visa in it. We've been through the house and car multiple times, top to bottom, called the family we stayed with and the hotel we stayed at and it isn't turning up anywhere.

You cannot call the montreal consulate where I got my visa. What do I do?!?!
