Thanks again everyone and I hope everyone else that's going through this journey will also have a worthy outcome. Just to add.. there wasn't any denials just a few blue but I'm sure they will also get their pink as soon as they submit the rest of their required documents.

Just remember to be honest, prepared, and smile often..

i am assuming since my boy also have a vietnamese passport he won't need any exit visa? when he leaves they will just stamp the vn passport?

i'm not familiar with what an exit visa is? if my fiancee passes does she need it? i'm thinking no on that one also...

also my fiancee just had her medical exam at IOM. ALL of the staff from the security outside to the nurses were very helpful and cordial. we had a crying baby missing his mother and they were very accomodating. just wanted to pass that along as i've read bad experiences from cho ray.

That's correct about having vietnamese passport (ho chieu). I asked this during my CRBA, and they told us there was 3 ways of doing this. Exit visa for one, ho chieu another, and the 3rd one was so novel I don't even remember.

Yes, an exit visa is required if the child doesn't have a VN passport. It's because the child would be clearing VN immigration as a US citizen rather than a VN citizen. Most US citizens enter Vietnam with a visa, and VN immigration can check their passport on exit to see if they entered legally or overstayed. A child born in Vietnam wouldn't have a VN visa in their passport. Without an exit visa, it would look like they were smuggled into the country. An exit visa gives them permission to leave without ever having obtained permission to enter.
