how come toddlers don't like the news? how come adults don't love dora the explorer? they're not the target audience. who cares.

Toddlers, adults are not based on skin color.

Are some movies targeting people with different skin color?

What is a "black movie"? Last time I checked Will Smith was the biggest movie star in the world.

I would imagine something like a Spike Lee film or anything with 'Medea' in the title.

One thing I do find kind of strange is advertisements. Flipping through channels you see McDonalds advertising to different skin colors (with 'groovy' music) according to the predominant color on TV shows at the time. I am sure there are different ways of looking at this, market-driven/consumer-driven/etc.

If race is taken out of the equation in the story line (including family identity)- I am sure that audiences would identify more with the film.

Or the audience could choose to widen their viewing horizons a bit more... expand those comfort zones.

Interesting analysis... I wonder what the actual numbers are like... controlling for viewer sizes and size of available films to view. For example, blacks going to see 'white' movies and vice versa. Of course, I cringe at the classification of movies in that way. Some people like to pigeonhole things in this way to show the society is obviously not post-racial, and thus defend a system of cultural segregation that is honestly artificial in many regards.

Well, I guess people go to see movies that they are interested in. I have seen MANY of Tyler Perry's movies. Some I have enjoyed and others I haven't. I guess I never really looked at them as being "black" movies. I am sure there are others I have seen and just not realized I was going to a movie not "made" for me :unsure: .

Edited to add, one of my top 10 movies and one that I believe was loved by many is The Color Purple.

While the star is renting a five-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom apartment for $25,000 a month

less than a mile away, he wanted to have all the comforts of the home on set with him.

That includes a lounge with a bar, a movie room with a 100-inch screen, marble floors throughout, a full-service kitchen,

a large bedroom and all-granite bathroom. The trailer, which measures about 53 feet long and weighs around 30 tons,

also has a meeting space big enough for 30 people and offices for Smith's assistants and writing staff.

Of course Smith has to stay in shape as well, so he has an additional 55-foot trailer featuring a full-size gym.
