Doing odd jobs on a student visa???

I've read on many law firm websites that it is legal to do odd jobs such as mowing lawns on a student visa? Is this true?

Nope. It would be a violation of your visa.

You are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week on campus during semester, full-time (on campus) during school breaks, and in some special circumstances can be allowed to work outside of campus as well. For all paid work you need authorization from your school's international student services office. For all off-campus jobs, if you were given permission, you would need an EAD.

Unless if the lawn belongs to you.

I am sure if you attended the international orientation before you started your school, they covered this topic - you cannot work off campus.

I was volunteer with my schools int office and I know my school did this every semester for new student.

Thanks for your replies. I knew it was illegal to work for an employer but I read a good few times that it wasn't illegal to do odd jobs.

When you do odd jobs don't you work for employer?

You still work for an employer - big / small anyone who pays you for your service is an employer.
