I dunno about that... 56K access in Tashara - a `Siberian village`... lol, was better connect speed than it is here!

Unless we're talking about ice huts and stuff... In which case they may be using wireless in those places by now... heh heh heh.

Anyways, so what's wrong with isolated Siberian villages?

It was fun, especially in the dead of winter.

Forget 56k, the villages outside of Tomsk didn't have copper lines for phones to begin with. Granted there might be a few savey people who connect via cell phone (GPRS), but besides that you aren't getting on. Heck, there were plenty of homes in major cities in Russia that still lack phone lines! Edited by Satellite

Oh yeah - I forgot! Even in NSK one of my friends had to hijack a phone line (from a business next door) in the evenings just to have phone/internet in her apartment.

Well, we have been married a little more than three months and here are some of my observations:

Before comming to the US she was very particular about shoes (you guys know what I am talking about). Only perfect European shoes with heals...the taller the better. I had tried to buy her comfortable "sport shoes" on several of my trips, such as Nike or Reebock, but she said "NO WAY!" Well guess what she has now.....SPORT SHOES!! (Although I will admit she still wears them much less than 50% of the time)

Although she doesn't drive she always had a thing for small cars and couldn't understand the love of the SUV. I have a small economy daily driver and a large SUV for trips and towing. She calls the SUV the "Blue Monster" and was a little reluctant to ride in it, and complained about the "petrol usage". Now after several trips she loves the "Blue Monster" because of its soft and comfortable ride and quietness.

When she first arrived she inspected my washer and that other thing that I explained to her was a "clothes dryer" She didn't care for my old fashioned top loader washing machine, and told me "We don't need a clothes dryer. We will buy a clothes line for outside and save electricity." The clothes line was great, until it started to rain every afternoon. Finally she was forced to use the dryer. Now I am afraid I might as well throw out that clothes line as I am sure it will never be used again! Ditto on that thing they call a "dishwasher"

After the first week I looked in my closet for some old work clothes and discovered the "clothes KGB" had come and cleared out all work clothes and sent them away, presumably to a work camp in Siberia never to be seen again.

One more thing.........OMG, she has discovered ebay! What a surprise when after she spent two days bidding and won too much jewelry and then told me, "Oh, I don't think I want any of it. Tell them I have changed my mind!" She says "What do you mean I HAVE to buy it now....I don't want it. I was just playing!!" LOL

Every day is a new adventure, and I love her dearly!

:))))) for me same thing-i like shoes with heels and when i came back about 2 months ago from Russia i bought there shoes, boots with heels,Dublenku(coat?) and every time when i wear them my husband saying"Oh russian style":)))But anyway I love it
