I was smart enough to hire a driving instructor for my wife. If I would of taught her I would of hurt her feelings and she would of cried. Teaching your wife to drive has disastrous written all over it.

I taught her the basic, start car and gas and brake, I let her drive a couple of time.

I hired a guy who charged $40 per hour that included gas, she took about 3 one hour lessons and then went down and used his car to take the driving test.

She came home with a Driver Licenses, I tosssed her the keys to a car I had purchased her and told her to run to the store and pick me up some food.

I taught my wife. It takes patience, love and understanding to be successful, and I am speaking of from both the husband AND the wife. She had to endure my nervousness too. It might not be for everyone. She had to take the test 3 times. She would get nervous and then confused because of her nervousness. Once she got the liccense, it was only a mater of letting her go alone to familiar places for her to improve her confidence. Her circle keeps growing bigger of where she will drive to. She drives herself to work. She used to take only the back way, off the interstate, but when she was comfortable and after having driven with me on the interstate to her work, she eventually started going that way every day. She is a great driver now. I am really proud of her.

still a nervous wreck... and lots and LOTS of fight between me and my husband when it comes to practice driving time.

i suck at driving.

I bought my fiance at the time, a Mazda 626, paid around 3k for it. She did put a few scratched and dents in it. She had it for about 1 year and after I felt she was good and confidence to drive she went ahead and good her an updated ride

Definitely start with a used car.. Thank God I was a Manila driver before I came here. The only bad part was I was so used to honking in Manila and I had to learn to tone it down when I got here. Haha :)

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

I am so nervous everytime my husband teach me how to drive (para ako hihimatayin lol). Share naman your experience.

Never thought in my life that i will learn how to drive more so after i wreck my husband's car the first time i was behind the wheels.

It is very normal to be nervous but the only way to learn and gain confidence is by driving more and more.,,day and night rain or shine by yourself.

My husband first taught me how to drive but ends up yelling at each other Lol!! Then i went to a driving school which was too expensive but never learned a single thing(they don't care if u learn or not as long as u pay them).

Then finally after months of hubby's convincing me to practice driving through his Xbox driving assimilation game.. found out that tha;s the best way to learn how to drive really.

i did practice the driving game 30 mins. a day and the next time i sit behind the wheels i was surprized how good i was then. Now i can go to places anytime ,anywhere. I suggest the driving assimilation game.it will really teach u the car control which what i learned most importantly.

I like to hire an instructor also. It is a good idea to buy them a new car or used car? I was thinking in a new car but my friends are telling me to get her a used car then 1 or 2 years get a new one. Once she has enough experience.

I had a brand new HHR SS.That was after i convinced hubby that i was already driving good in the game and he knew i can actually drive on the road then..so he got me a brand new HHR SS.

I hear you! :) The car horn was my bestfriend while I was driving in Manila and now I seldom hear one! I remember when I was here 2 years ago that I had problems too making my turns since I was used to coming to almost a full stop to navigate through the narrow streets of Manila.

Bearcat, the nervousness will go eventually. I remember the first time I drove my then-boyfriend's car, we were both nervous that I completely missed a 3-way Stop sign. Fortunately, ours was the only car at the intersection. When you're ready, start driving on your own even just to go to the nearest store. Good luck! :)

Lahat tayo nanggaling dyan. :)

Download and memorize the driving manual from DMV.

Read the manual of your car, study and try all the gadgets in front of the driver's seat. Know your car.

Collect yourself and drive.

Simple rule, dont hesitate, if you would press on the gas, press on it. Also, memorize the dimension of your car. This saved me from several possible accidents in the Philippines.

Driving is fun here in the US.

Let her try to drive BMW SUV first if she wont have a hard time with the steering wheels. The BMW 328xi is quite easy to drive though i dont like the limited visibility at the back. This comment is due to being used to driving SUV car.

Basis on my input, Im buying a new car this december, did a test drive with BMW sedan. We have an BMW SUV, hubby wants me to have it but i find its quite heavy for me.

3 1st very important things I learned about driving from my husband before he gave up on me and hand me over to the driving instructor the next day of my 1st lesson from him.

#1. NEVER CONFUSE WITH THE GAS TO BREAK OR VICE-VERSA.

#2. NO LEFT TURN IN RED... EVER.

#3. SLOW DOWN 1st BEFORE TURNING.

Took 2 driving lesson classes, paid twice... and failed twice in my driving test lol. Well, not actually my driving, it was my parralel parking... . Luckily and painfully I finally passed the 3rd driving test.

Chains do not hold a marriage together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads which sew people together through the years.

That is why I mentioned the x3 it is not as big as the x5 and share same platform as the 3 series.

I find the 3 series small for me but for her i think it will be great!
