Hey everybody, :)

I hope you are all doing well! My brother is getting ready to send out his N-400 application but there is one thing confusing him. During the past 5 years, he has 2 trips that were made outside of the US that were over 6 months but under a year. In the N-400 instructions form, it states that if the person has proof that they still maintained ties to the US during their absence then they can apply. Examples of proof of ties given were rent/mortgage, pay stubs or IRS transcripts.

My brother was outside the US as a student but our family lived in the US while he was studying abroad. My question is, will he be able to submit my father's tax transcripts for the past 5 years as proof of him maintaining ties to the US since he was included in my dad's tax forms? Will that be good enough?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

How about a proof from school he was registered as a foreign student? That would make it show he was only there for studies.

Thank you for your reply. He does have his diploma with the duration of study on it, so he has proof that he was a student, but the USCIS wants proof that during that time that he was outside, he still maintained ties to the US. So I was wondering if my father's tax transcript would suffice since my brother was included as a dependent on them.
