Understanding the Economics of the World's Poor

So why do you feel the label 'poor' fits you as a child? Did you live on government assistance? Section 8? Food Stamps? Medicare or some other government funded healthcare? Free school lunch program?

I've stated this before. My mom was on AFDC, Medicaid, etc... School lunch prices were dirt cheap back then, only $0.70/day. The reduced lunch prices were $0.40... My mom never applied for the reduced/free lunch programs though. I also brought my lunch often as well, as of course that was cheaper.

I grew with an attitude that I didn't want to live like that. I was embarassed to live like that from a very very young age. I tried to start getting a job as young as 11, but due to stupid labor laws, I had to wait until I was 14. The first opportunity I had, I took advantage and started working.

The biggest critic of my life growing up was myself. I have every bit of room to criticize it all and criticize those who use the system. I saw it for what it was and I wanted better and thought anyone could have better if only they tried. For some there's a lack of motivation, for some there's an acceptance of someone else taking care of them. That's not for me and it never will be.

Your mom was doing what she could given the fact that she was a single parent, like a lot of poor people in similar circumstances. It wasn't your mother's fault she needed assistance.

Sure it was. She was capable, just like many other's who are capable. Even working part-time would have been beneficial.

This idea that people are incapable just because they are a single parent is foolish.

You blame your mother for being poor?

You blame your mother for being poor?

*gasp* I know. How horrible. I blame people for not taking care of themselves and relying on society.

Oh wow.. That explains a lot of your posts.

Wanting personal responsibility?

Are you trying to insult me based on my childhood?

If you are, you know that you can go straight to hell.

Why do you suppose she chose to be poor? In other words, if you were her, what would you have done differently?

I don't think we should make broad generalizations about Paul or anyone based on limited information. Post history and their content, though, might show there are latent anger issues somewhere in the past but I am not qualified to make that kind of judgement to his whole person from only reading his at-times flamboyant posts. Its not fair to him, as outlandish a lot of what he says seems to be sometimes.

No, I was referring to your anger issues and authority issues.. And I am truly sorry that you had a shitty childhood (F)

Understand this.

If you took all the money in the world and divided equally among all the people in the world, within 5 years we would be economically exactly the same as we are now. The only way for a person to imporve their economic situation is to do it themselves. Otherwise they will just be at some other level of government dictated poverty.

So you're saying that you're not a billionaire by choice?
