Hello Everyone,

I am a Filipina, married to a US citizen and currently living in Korea. He is teaching here in Korea and we have been here together for over a year. We are planning to move to the US sometime soon and we would like to know if we are qualified to do the DCF. Since we got married in the Philippines (October 2009), should I go back to my country during the visa process or can we just stay in Korea?

Any information would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

You can stay together. If he has been legally resident in Korea for 6 months or more, then he can file directly at the US embassy there.

You can stay in Korea so long as you have a valid Korean visa, and can go the DCF route provided you have been resident there for at least six months before you apply.

If he is teaching here, how long does he have left on his teaching contract? My husband and I are going through the same process here, but our teaching visa doesn't expire until March 5th 2012.

He just signed another contract last month for another year. so it'll be expired next year. Have you filed the I-130 yet? if so, did u make an appointment and go directly to the embassy or did u send it through mail?

Any information will be highly appreciated. Thank you very much!

Thank you all for the informations. Your effort is highly appreciated!

After completing all forms, you will need to email the embassy for an appointment to submit your documents in person.

We sent the Embassy an email with different days and times and they sent us a day to come in and submit the petition in person. They were very nice, especially if you have all your paperwork in order.

Something to remember is that the Embassy is closed on several Korean AND American holidays. If you live outside of Seoul, or if your husband works really early or really late hagwon hours you might need to schedule your Embassy trips and visits on his holidays. Make sure you do it in advance, as slots can fill up quite quickly!

Hi. I'm the U.S. citizen and my wife is a citizen from the Philippines. I know I qualify to apply DCF here in Seoul but my wife will visit me here in Korea on a 90 day Visa. My question is, Does the 6 month residency requirement apply to her too?
