We sent out the package on the 10th of Dec and got the first NOA on the 16th. Since then our case has been touched once (31st of Dec) and we have no NOA2.

Should I be worried? Is it more likely we'll get an RFE if it's taking a while for the second NOA?

No, you shouldn't be worried, and no, the length of time between the NOA1 and the NOA2 is irrelevant as far as an RFE is concerned. There are people here who received their NOA1s in October and still haven't heard anything back. Some people wait seven months and then receive their NOA2 without an RFE. You're still within the normal processing time (which is now 6 months rather than 5) so until you pass 6 months, and hit 7 months, you don't have to be concerned. Unfortunately, it's a heck of a wait. :(

That was us, we didn't hear anything until we received it in the mail. We kept checking the website and nothing. Even tried calling them (good luck getting answers there!). Waiting with no idea how long you have to wait is tough, believe me I know but hang in there!

What about the lack of updates/touches? Does that mean anything?

Nope, touches mean nothing at all, it seems. If someone moves the box that your file is in, you could have a "touch". Some people will not have a touch at all, and some people may have several. You're ok :)

Absolutely no need to worry. We submitted ours in October, and had one touch like a week afterwards. Then nothing until almost 7 months later. We were just approved last week. Took 6 months and about 3 weeks. Almost 7 months for our NOA2. It will happen, but unfortunately, in THEIR time. Hang in there. It actually does happen, right when you've about given up hope. I promise!

As mentioned above there is no strict process ... a touch can just mean your file was moved from one desk to another so its not necessarily significant anyway. You'll find from this site that there are many variations throughout the process. Good place to ask questions when you feel doubtful... good luck on your journey.

Mar 2011 - After 5mths denied for lost docs - Attempts to follow up failed. Mar 18 2012 - I-129F sent - No sign of NOA1 but they have banked the check...Jul 24 - Update - USCIS has located our file

Nothing to worry about. Sooner or later your case will be in front of a "friendly" USCIS person who can only apply policy within some fuzzy boundaries that in some cases might result in a RFE (wish you it does not). But even if there is a silly RFE, all you need to do (after the initial frustration) is to send them whatever they ask for as soon as possible. No point on trying to understand the logic of anything they do.
