I will continue to work for a German company once I have moved to the states. I currently have a full-time contract with the company, but will go down to part-time, freelance, though the freelance title is really for tax reasons more than anything, as I will have a contract and will earn a regular salary and work regular 20 hour weeks. I'm wondering the best way to handle it for the I-864. Should I have my boss write a letter stating I will be working part-time for $XXXX? Or should I bring my contract? But this will say how much I'll be making in Euros. Will they convert a salary in Euros into dollars? At the current exchange rate, if my euro salary is converted into dollars I make a couple grand over the poverty level.

Any help on this or in general on the I864 would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty confident about everything else, but this part is freaking me out a bit.

DCF TIMELINE FRANKFURT:

I am an American married to a German for 5 years.

29 April 2011 Made appointment through Infopass

06 May 2011 Filed I-130 in person

06 May 2011 Paid $420 for I-130 filing fee (paid with credit card)

06 May 2011 Filed Form DS-230 Part I & II in person

06 May 2011 Received packet with checklist, told to gather documents

IMPORTANT: Tips for DCF in Frankfurt

The wait to get into the building was 30-40 minutes. We showed up at 8am for our 9am appointment.

Copies needed: copy of certified marriage certificate front and back, USC passport and Aufenthaltserlaubnis, IS passport

If you forget to make copies or need to get passport pics at the consulate, the change machine ONLY takes 5 & 10 euro bills. I had a 50 and had to go up to people privately and ask for change. Luckily the 4th guy I asked had it.

I would do both- bring the contract and a letter from the employer. They know the exchange rate, so can convert it. If you have any assets (savings etc) I'd list them too, as you will only be a couple of grand over with the income alone.

Thanks for the reply. I think you're right and I'll bring as much supporting proof as possible.
