The tax returns also show income before taxes - not only adjust gross income. You need a complete tax return, which is different for every person, but includes a 1040 and W2s or 1099s and any schedules. Both the W2 and the tax return itself show the total income. You need both.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

The return transcript is a summary of the tax returns. Actually the transcripts are preferred with the W2. At least this is the case in Vietnam. They even have it posted on the Consulate in Vietnam.

I hope this helps!

Good luck!

If you submit the tax return transcript, no other information is required--no W-2, no 1099, nada. Since the transcript is provided by the IRS, the rest of the immigration process accepts it without question.

 Now, if you send a copy of your 1040(EZ), you need to send the W2/1099 along with.

Holding my nose and jumping off the cliff.. hope I don't hit any rocks in the water.

I can tell you only one thing for sure--if you go online to the IRS website you can request the transcripts for three years--free--no muss, no fuss, and NO RFE's on that front. Or if you prefer, call the IRS help line. It's really a no brainer to get documents that are 100% accepted by NVC. Quick, too.

You can request as many years as you like. I needed five years for another reason, and it was completely painless--I called because at the time I didn't know I could do it online.

Yaseen,

Please don't doubt the capabilities of people who looks at documents and validates them as a profession and is probably doing this for years. Yes, you may get away with sending copies, but in case an original is required, you send a copy, and if it is identified, you will get an RFE just for that. For the interview, they might give her hard time for something on which has no clue. Is it worth taking the risk? Beside, once you raise a red flag, it may get unnecessarily complicated.

Just my thought....
