Medical Exam

Hello,

I received PKT 4 today and want to schedule my medical exam. I would really appreciate if you could answer the following questions regarding the medical exam for K1 visa applicants.

1. I have received a letter from the Consulate in Montreal instructing me to book an interview however, there are currently no interviews available at the Consulate in Montreal. Can I schedule a medical exam without an interview scheduled so that if an interview becomes available, I will already have the medical completed?

2. How long does it take to get an appointment for a medical exam in Toronto?

3. I was given a printed personal immunization record by the Windsor Essex County Health Unit. It shows the date and vaccinations that I have received in addition to my name, date of birth and health card number. However, it does not state who the vaccine was given by or the dose. Some of the vaccines that I received were not listed on this sheet so my doctor wrote me a signed note stating that she had given me the vaccines and the date they were given. Is this sufficient?

4. I don't have a record of receiving the flu shot this year but I did get it in the fall. How can I prove that I received this vaccine? Is it important considering that flu season is over?

5. On the panel physicians website, under the immunization requirements for people aged 18-64 years, they list several required vaccines. However, the Consulate in Montreal sent me a letter listing additional required vaccines. One vaccine that I have not obtained is Rotavirus. The Heath Unit and my family doctor told me that this is only given to babies. I just want to confirm that I do not need this vaccine.

6. I am 24 years old and healthy as far as I know. What medical history information do I need to obtain from my doctor and bring to the medical appointment?

7. I have received vaccinations for Diphtheria and Tetanus within the past 10 years but my most recent vaccination for Pertussis was in 1993 (I had 6 Pertussis vaccinations in total). Is that sufficient or do I need a Pertussis booster?

Thank you very much for your advice!

1- The medical clinic needs to know when your interview is taking place and will require to see your Packet 4 letter. Wait until you have an appointment scheduled with the consulate to book it. Medisys in Montreal is flexible and can give you a timely appointment. Results are usually provided results in 3 days.

2- Call their Toronto office?

3- Yes it is sufficient.

4- No it is not important as flu season is over. I told them I had it done in December last year and they just wrote it down and considered that was OK.

5- You don't need to have that vaccine done it's a new one for babies our generation didn't have.

6- I believe you need a booster every ten years. You can check with your doctor and have it done prior to your medical or ask them to provide it for you. I needed an update on my tetanus shot and Medisys did it on the spot.

Don't worry so much, they mostly want to know if you have any chronic illness, history of drug abuse and any untreated disease. They will look for TB, syphilis and any other STDs. Any vaccine you don't have you can have it done later but will need to provide proof of compliance when you AOS. You will have a 5 minute doctor consultation, a chest x-ray, they'll take a blood sample and check your vaccines. You'll be out in an hour or so.

US citizen since April 2016

ROC completed April 2014

AOS from K1 completed February 2012
