I would prefer mass sterilizations over forced abortions, but that is just me. There are way too many humans on this planet. China may have identified the problem, just not the most humane solution.

I did imagine a system once where everyone is sterilized at age 12 upwards. Then you pay the Federal government x fee to submit an application for parental approval. Once your mental and physical health were determined you were provided a permit that allowed you to skip sterilization for 18 months to have a child.

What scared me was that I said this to a few people with a straight face and they actually fully agreed with it!

Yeah, we are a confused bunch as a species. The solutions really are obvious, but it is hard to get past the queasiness factor. As many self-professed atheists as there are out there, and creation deniers, there is still some reluctance to interfere with probability when it comes to procreating humans.

I think it would be a fair statement to say that babies tend to be much better off when pregnant women have adequate access to health care.

Why dangle a cute little baby in front of an underage mother? (since this is a very common case). A lot of these girls are naive and think they can raise a child. If they make the decision to abort, honestly, it's usually the best for everyone in the long term. Now, when you tug at her heart and remind her of how cute and cuddly it'll be... how many young ladies will be strong enough to stick to their original decision?

Awful legislation. How about teaching kids nation wide about birth control and how babies are made instead of focusing on the symptom. Why is this information kept from people? Oh right, the lower-middle class generate a lot of credit card interest, and pregnancy/delivery certainly isn't free This is really infuriating stuff.
