This guides apply to people who require work and travel authorization from the USCIS. This applies to certain applicants who have filed for Adjustment of Status and are still pending approval. An example of a person who might require these would be a person who entered under a K1 Visa and desired to work or travel away from the US while their Adjustment application was still pending approval. Once you file you will have several options available to track your case.

Hello!

I received the authorization for Parole but it is under my married name. My passport has my maiden name. If I travel, when i come back to the USA, will they let me in using the passport with my maiden name? Are there documents I should take to prove the name change?

Thanks in advance.

You need to take a copy of your marriage license

my fiance is in the military and he is stationed in okinawa japan, will it be possible for him to take me with him prior to getting the advance parole if he will get his orders cut? we've consulted our immigration specialist about it and he said it is ok for me to travel even without the AP since it wont be considered leaving US since it's on orders i just want to verify if that is possible.

we were hoping that after his leave to go back to US he can take me with him back to Okinawa, say after about 3 wks from the wedding, since their admin told him it only takes 2 weeks max to process the orders and i can get SOFA status. any thoughts on that would be very helpful thanks!

hi i have a similar question. im planning to travel in Sep and my passport still has my maiden name but my marriage certificate is also in my maiden name because when we were applying for the marriage license it just asked to put my current last name and not any other. Can i still use my marriage certificate to change my name in the SSA Office and also use it for travel because i am apply for AP and i put my married name in it.

Oh and should i put my married name on the forms I-485, I-131, and I-765?

My I-94 was expired but my passport is valid. I have to travel domestic trip before AOS approved (if EAD approve, this card is enough for second ID?). I plan to take my passport, NOAs and marriage certificate. Is there any document needed besides those?

Thanks for any suggestions.

your marriage certificate is in your maiden because that was your name at the time..not a problem just take it with you to the SSA Office..and to answer your second question it depends on what you want it to say on your greencard,if you plan on going by your married name just fill out the forms using your married name.

Are you allowed to travel to and from the US after completing AOS?

Oh dear! Of course you are! AOS is an application to be become a permanent resident, and gives you rights to work and travel and be a real person! Who would move to the states if they could never travel home again?

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Can my wife travel even if she doesnt have her green card yet but has her AP? We have a AOS interview sep 1 and she has a ticket for sep 16.
(If you post in a pinned thread, chances are slim that you'll get an answer.) If she passes the interview, explain your travel plans and ask for the I-551 stamp in her passport (bring it to the interview). The stamp serves the same function as a green card, and using the AP form will no longer be necessary.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Hi, all! Sorry, first, if this is too similar to what's been asked before such that I should already understand the answer ^^; But anyway...

My wife (Japanese) and I (U.S.C.) live in Japan and are in the process of getting her CR-1 visa. If all goes according to plan, we should complete the interview some time between Jan-March 2013, and be off to the U.S. by the end of April. We'd like to finally take a honeymoon in Europe at that time, or shortly thereafter. We think it would be more practical to go to the U.S. first to settle some things (and drop luggage), then head off on our trip.

Questions: What do we need to do to make sure she can return to the U.S. after our trip (probably a couple weeks)? I imagine we need a reentry permit? Does it take long to receive this? If we want to leave soon after arriving in the U.S., can we apply for that permit from here in Japan?

Thanks for any insight anyone can offer! Really appreciate this community and the folks here!

No re-entry permit needed. When she enters the USA the first time, she will get a stamp in her passport endorsing her spousal visa; this will act as temporary greencard for one year allowing her to travel, work etc.
