How long is the expiration of an immigrant visa upon issuance? I asked this because I plan to visit and see my family first in the Philippines especially my father before he takes off to the States. Thank you all for your help!

It is usually 6 months from issuance, but can be less, especially if you had your medical well in advance of the interview.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Most visas are for 6 months. My friend's mother's visa was for 4 months only. I am not sure why it is not all the same so you should check your Dad's visa. Also, penguin is right. You should consider the date of medical because it is only valid for 6 months. Anyway, good luck to you. I am flying to Philippines tonight for vacation and then come back here to the states with my mother. I am so glad my mom's visa journey is finally over. Cheers!

July 2014 - Filed I-130 petition to Dad

September 2014 - NOA-2 - Approved

July 15, 2015 - POE Guam - Dad, welcome to U.S.A.

N-400 Naturalization of Mother

May 2016 - Sent application packet for Mom's naturalization

July 2016 - Biometrics

August 2016 - Interview - PASSED

September 2016 - Oath Ceremony - Mom is now a U.S. Citizen

My kids had IR2 visas and it was valid for 6 months.
