Three more weeks for me ladies  Time cannot go fast enough!

Donna, who did you get your ticket from? I'm looking now for the best deal between the 10th and 18th..

Aly... I found the best deal thru American Airlines... Especially June is a high priced month to fly! Anyhooo... 3 WEEKS AND YOU WILL BE HERE WITH YOUR MAN!!!! WAAAAAHOOOOO, COME ON! I know how crazy exciting it is also you feel like time can't go fast enough, but so soon you will be here!!!

Yeah, I found June was more expensive, so I'm leaving on the 31st of May. I ended up getting my ticket via ExploreTrip.com You can check flights from multiple airlines through momondo.com and skyscanner.com I know the tickets right now leaving on the 31st are even cheaper than I was able to pick one up for the other day. Good luck! I'm kind of obsessive about finding cheap flights, if you need any help just let me know!

PS What airport are you flying out of? I'll poke around some here too!

I will be leaving from Orlando (MCO)...I noticed in that it seems purchasing a multi-flight ticket as opposed to one way is in most cases less expensive at least by a little bit....anyone have experience with having done that? I was considering one ticket to JFK and another from JFK to Cairo

That's what I was thinking about doing, but it was just too darned frustrating to try to make sure I could get the flights into JFK to hook up with the flights out of JFK. I wanted to do the flight to JFK then a separate non-stop flight into Cairo. Ended up with a flight with 2 stops... I'm not thrilled about it, but I'll live. :)

This may be a little forward, my asking, but I figured I would give it a try. Anyone willing to bring me 2 cartons of cigarettes? I cannot find my brand here at all. I of course would pay you your money and a little extra for your troubles. I know it is difficult when packing bags to stay under weight and all but maybe it wont add hardly any weight? Let me know please.

Hmmm, well I might possibly be visiting Cairo next Summer (2012), because I want to marry my Egyptian sweetheart there. So if you are still there at that time... In that case, I would LOVE to!! Or any other American women who will be there during that time.

I do have some questions for you though... I heard that the American sponsor has to be working a job where they are earning at least double the U.S. poverty level for at least 3 years, to sponsor an immigrant. But I'm also reading about a lot of American women moving to stay with their husband in Egypt, while they wait for the Visa to file. So... How can a person maintain a job earning that much while living in Cairo??? Also doesn't moving to Cairo mean giving up any U.S. jobs? Is there a way around that income rule? Have I been misinformed?

Well if you don't meet the income requirement then you will need someone to co-sponser and that is a big undertaking considering it makes them financially committed to him for 10 years if for some reason they become a charge of the state.

Yeah, that does sound like a huge commitment.... I just wonder how you can meet the income requirement while living in Cairo...

Oh another thing I wanted to ask-- I do meet the income requirement right now, but.... I keep reading on the immigration websites that you can provide proof of income (like tax return) for ONLY the most recent year. Or the past 3 years, if it helps.

Then someone else in another forum told me you have to prove the last 3 years of income.

So.... Is it one year? Or three? If its just one year, I will go ahead and work till summer 2012, then go over, marry him, and then file for him.

Also-- Since we would be married would the count his income and my income as one?

Melissa, there is still much reading for you to do my dear.

1st... it is 125% of the poverty level for your household... so your's would be 2 unless you have children.

2nd.... it is the last 3 tax years they want for the support part.

3rd... Many women that move here either find work as a teacher of some sorts, or like me move here and not work at all.

4th... they will not count your husband's income at all, because once he immigrates he will not have that income.

5th... A co-sponsor is an excellent idea, just to be sure you meet requirements, especially if you plan to move here.

6th... Today my friend Angie informed me that after July of this year the Embassy here in Cairo will no longer have DCF (direct consular filing) so I would not bother with trying to learn of that.

7th... you got lots of time to read read read... get yourself familiar with the process and what is required for each step of the way, you will find invaluable information on this site, especially in the guides, and wiki links, and the advice of those that have gone before you.

I hope this has helped you in some sort of way. I know it is so confusing when first starting out wacko.gif... try to relax, make lists of what needs to be done and when it should be done. That's what I did and I made sure I was always prepared for the next step before the step prior was completed. Here are the steps you will take if you go the spousal visa way:

1. Get married in Cairo, while you are here document everything, save receipts, pictures, plane ticket stubs, anything that shows proof or you being here, even newspapers may help.

2. Go home and file the I-130

3. Wait 5-6 months to get the I-130 approved at the USCIS level. During this time begin to get everything needed for the NVC stage.

4. Once you recieve the NOA2 be prepared, this stage moves fast! (NVC)

5. Once your case is complete at the NVC, your spouse will be scheduled a interview.

I also want to mention to you it is important to spend as much time together physically as possible. Ok after reading the guides and wikis if you have any questions just post a topic or feel free to ask me and I will answer best way I can or help you find the answers! Best wishes!!!!

I am in the first steps of this long but happy journey! My Sameh wants so badly to come here and "speak with my father" about our intentions before we marry in Cairo. He has an interview date for a visitor's visa on 7/25/11, but I don't know how good his odds of getting it are. :( I know getting a visitor's visa is like panning for gold. But he is determined to try, and it means so much to him to be able to come speak with my dad, so he is going to give it a try. The plan was for me to come visit in Cairo for 2-3 weeks this summer, but the problem we are running into are that his mom is very conservative, and so staying with them while we are unmarried is not an option. Does anyone know of a good, safe, and importantly inexpensive place for a single American woman to stay for 2-3 weeks in Cairo? (hotel, hostel, rental, etc?) I would loooove to join a group to talk! We will marry in Cairo in September, and after I come back to the USA and graduate in December, then take boards, etc, I want to come with my kids and stay in Cairo until his spousal visa is approved. (Figure I'll relocate in late Jan/early Feb) Just wish September wasn't so far away!
