Folks, I want to bring my sisters to the States but I wonder how long does it take for the whole process to be done? I've heard from my friend it took like 6 years for her bro to be able to come here. And do I have to file seperate for each of my sister? I am soon will be leaving for basic training for the US Navy , Will this caught any problem? Thanks in advance.

It currently takes between 11 and 23 years, depending on which country you/ your sisters are from. Yes, you'd need to file seperately for each.

No problem with you being in the military- you can file before you go, and then you won;t need to do anything for years. Just be sure to keep your address updated for eventual paperwork to be sent to you.

I'm from VN and I overheard from a friend of mine who aslo got her bro here like a few months ago and she said it took almost 7 years for the whole process.

are you sure it was the USC sibling petitioning for her brother? it takes more than 10 years for siblings.

Maybe the parents filed for him, depending on the country of origin, sometimes by parents it's less time.

Are there a limited number of visa for each country issued? It seems like 10 years is a long time to wait.

Yes, there is only a limited number of visas available - for more info, take a look at visa bulletin http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_5424.html

10 is for most countries, exceptions are: Mexico - 15 years, Phillipines - 23.

There's a limited total number of visas in each category per year, which means there's a waiting line. In addition, no single country can get more than 7% of the total in each category, which means the length of the waiting line is longer in some countries than it is in others.
