As I understand, Yoshkar-Ola has been known for quite a few years to be scam-central in Russia. Doesn't look like it's gotten any better. Buyer beware...if a woman 1/3 your age has fallen in love with you, she probably hasn't. :P

I was lucky enough to start dating Russian women at 20 years old. Good thing I never fell for anyone 1/3 my age!

Haven't we seen similar here on VJ? Not that long ago some guy was posting the mysterious situation with his fiance not showing up at the interview. I think there are plenty of independent skamerska working out there as well.

Poor girl needs money for Passport, then money to go to Moscow for the interview, then poof she is gone!

We had a member with a fiance' from YO too. Looked looked he was taken in pretty well. Then her ex found him on vj, and all kinds of stalking and other fun ensued.

I feel bad for those guys getting scammed...but then again if someone has internet they have access to "google" and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to read up on what to look out for.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I have been truly amazed at the members here who will post about, or talk about, sending hundreds of dollars per month to some one they just met online recently. Even if they never met personally, and any member who trys to describe the situation in terms of danger signals or red flags just gets blown off.

Love is blind and sometimes has money to burn.

Was the scam you referenced above a "traditional" Y-O scam, though? The situation there seemed to be slightly different, but I don't know if I ever really fully heard the truth in that situation.

Anyone that sends money to someone they have never met except online gets what they pay for. It always strikes as odd that anyone that stupid can ever manage to earn money anyway.

In my experience an FSU woman no matter how difficult her situation, would not ask for money from a stranger nor even accept it if offered. From a close friend or a family member, yes, but "close friend" in the FSU does NOT include someone you know only online.

The good news, for us, is that the frauds in the FSU are not the type that end up at the consulate applying for visas. Most of the FSU frauds stick to the internet and simply say they are something they are not. Most often it is men saying they are women. You get the occasional woman saying she is a man though. I don't imagine there is much money in that. Must be for other reasons.

Wow. I've read about guys being scammed on the internet, but never actually seen it going on in "real time" as you describe. What do you say to someone like that? Has anyone ever been dissuaded once the membership let them know what was likely going on?

I think in many cases, loneliness or desperation gets confused for love.

The ones being scammed in these cases are probably not playing with a full deck in the first place  Thats why I kind of feel bad for them. I think most Americans are already cautious of FSU scams. Thats why you can see a lot of scamming going on in other regional sections of this board

Someone is blantly asking about how much money should they be receiving during the waiting process

No, different one James. The one you are thinking of turned out not to be, though just before that there was a member that was definitely scammed all the way to the interview, which never occured. If you recall the woman told him she went to the interview but was denied for some strange reasons and wanted to "continue" and "try again"

But that is not the one Brad speaks of either.

ok....why did I know that it would probably link to the Philippine forums. I browse that forum from time to time when I'm bored and it's like scam central over there.

Agreed though that a lot of these guys don't have both oars in the water. It's almost like they want to get scammed.
