Do I need a police certificate for a working holiday in Oz?

I spent exactly 1 year in Australia traveling on a working holiday visa when I was 20. Does that count as having "lived" there? Do I need to get an Australian police certificate?

I never had intent to settle, and on my visa I wasn't allowed to work for any given employer for longer than 3 months. To my mind I was a traveler, not a resident, but it seems a bit ambiguous. Anyone have any ideas where I could sort out a technicality like this?

Thanks!

July 3, 2011 - POE at Pacific Central Station

July 25, 2011 - AOS mailed

August 30, 2011 - RFE (ARRRRGH)

September 26, 2011 - Biometrics appt

Sept 30 - Response to RFE sent in.

November 22, 2011 - Interview @ San Bernardino. Approved! Went down the street and got a passport stamp too, so I can travel for xmas.

hi.. my cousin, wen my cousin furnished copies of documents needed for his immigration petition papers thru IR1 visa consulted a lawyer, and as per the lawyer's advise, even if u just vacationed or spent anytime outside of your home country for more than 6 months, you are required to procure a police certificate.

i myself, think it's better that u get one too since you stayed for a year. best regards on all our journey :D mine's starting as well too!

Okay, so it looks like I DO need a record check with fingerprints from the AFP. This website says if I don't live in Australia that I have to have the fingerprints taken locally.

http://www.afp.gov.au/what-we-do/police-checks/national-police-checks.aspx

Do I get the fingerprints taken at the Commissionaires office where I get my Canadian criminal record check done, and then mail them to Australia myself, with the application form? Or does the office that does the fingerprinting mail them to Australia for me?

And just to vent: I can't believe it costs $105 to get a criminal record and fingerprint check from Australia!!! And it takes 30 days!!!

FYI, the answer, according to the form, is that I just get them done and mail them in with the form myself:

Is a fingerprint check required? Yes No If yes, fingerprints must be submitted with this form. In addition choose only one of the

below statements. For information on fingerprint checks see Section 5: Fingerprint Checks on the Application Completion Guide.

I have attached:

(a) fingerprints taken by another police jurisdiction OR

(b) fingerprints taken by the AFP and not charged when taken OR

© fingerprints taken by the AFP and charged when taken - receipt of payment must be supplied with this form

raldetta. I am glad I found this old topic. How did you do your police check application from Australia? So according to the website, you download the form, take fingerprints at your local police station (overseas from Australia), and mail them both with $105 AUS? Is that correct?

Thank you.
