Phuong won't use closets, which has me a little mystified. I bought her a big hardwood wardrobe for her clothes, and she keeps it packed.

The thing she most wants now is a traditional Buddhist altar. We've been using a tall bookcase, but she wants the traditional altar with abalone inlays and heavy lacquer. Surprisingly, there are many places around here that have them, but they are very expensive. We looked at one yesterday that was imported from central Vietnam, and marked down to half price because the store was going out of business - $1600 on sale. However, like much furniture from tropical climates, it had numerous cracks and the doors didn't fit right anymore. Her uncle suggested we buy one in Da Nang next time we're in Vietnam, disassemble it, and have it shipped here. We'll get a lot more for less money that way, but I still need to find a way to let the wood cure after it arrives so it doesn't end up with a lot of cracks.

in vietnam , we build house from concrete, and it do not include a closets, most vietnammese have never seen a closes, so it will made sense if jim's wife dont use one. oh by the way jim , force your wife to buy her own buddhist altar, the sticker shock will made her use the cheapest altar that she can get for her money. Buddda dont ask people to spend a few thousand dollars just so they can worship his ####, he ask people to be happy and live their life within their mean, at least that as far as i can remember those monks tellling me lol.

Strange. The first thing mine did was unpack and proceeded to take my clothes off the hangers and hang hers and then fold my clothes neatly in a pile in the back corner of the closet.

I don't think I am allowed to buy big things but am expected to somehow build everything from scratch. I really don't want to build a big closet as that will mean she will have to fill it up and I am sick of going shopping with her.

Wow! I don't think Phuong would have done anything like that. She didn't like my closet at all.

She is buying it. She's got a part time teaching job, and she's been saving her cash.
