Jobs report was good, so unless we get a report about there beind an overflow of stock, they are going to go right back up.

anywhere near $100/barrel is unacceptable.

Get it back below $70/barrel, then we can be talking good times.

so this is why we haven't seen the gecko, he's busy selling everything on wall street.

I think he's having champagne as he tallies the proceeds he's about to reap from the short positions he held. There's a massive transfer of wealth about to occur from Glenn Beck and his sheep to the Gecko.

You're sitting long on commodities? Sorry to hear.

+1

I didn't feel the need to pull the trigger on anything in the past 2 weeks, and I have substantial holdings and plenty of cash on the sidelines. The only thing that made me think is the 1-to-10 split of my substantial Citibank stock coming up on Monday. Thought about it and didn't do anything.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

You think gold and silver are not going to go up in the long run? I have been holding on to gold and silver since 1998. People get burned short term on precious metals. In the long run, even with the 28% capital gains hit, I don't think I have had a better return on any other investment.

Unfortunately, it's not so great for people who started buying recently though.

It's all in how one crops the picture.

Seems like just last year silver was about $20 and ounce now even after the recent decline it's at $35.

Had you listened to Glenn Beck, you would have tripled your money in a very short period of time.

That's true for most investments. By the way, long term capital gains tax rate is either 0% or 15% depending on which income tax bracket you fall into. I'm sure as an investor that is in the market for the long haul, you're aware of that...

Indeed. Diversification FTW.

For those with an attention span of less than a year, those short termers might not only go back to even on their short term gains, but end up losing more a little after that.

Not sure if people with "[short] attention spans" are the best way to describe someone who doesn't hold over 1 year....These are most likely people who do not have $20,000.....or $200,000....or $2 million to put aside and forget about for a period of years.

Its the difference between easily manipulated mentalities vs people with enough restraint to not throw all their eggs in one basket.
